If Republicans were better at messaging, maybe they could hammer home the message to parents of Chicago schoolkids that this sort of shameless greed is what the Left supports.
The Chicago union has kept kids out of schools for 9 days as they demand over $100,000 in pay for the average teacher.
That’s the topic of my article today on the Chicago school strike.
Hundreds of thousands of students are left on their own as their educators “fight for the students” by demanding a 15% raise in 3 years, while Chicago’s lefty mayor will only offer them 16% in 5 years.
And that’s not counting the annual cost-of-living increases which make it more like 25%.
5 years from now, the starting salary for a Chicago teacher would be $72,000 while the average salary for a Chicago teacher would be $100,000. That’s the offer that the union claims isn’t good enough.
67% of Chicago’s school budget already goes to salaries and benefits. Another 33% is left over for the other stuff. Guess where that $2.5 billion that the union is demanding will come from? Not the 67%.
Meanwhile, the CTU keeps gaslighting Chicago parents and residents with stunts like these.
By 10 a.m., a picket line of thousands of teachers formed around the targeted block. The crowded space left many leaving the area with marchers searching for places to shield themselves from the cold drizzling rain.
Organizers guided teachers to surround the block. An organizer with a megaphone urged teachers to make some noise and was met with lackluster cheers from the crowd.
The group began chanting, “We want libraries, we want books. We want the money that the Lincoln Yards took.”
Unlike Chicago’s failed school system, Lincoln Yards has the potential to bring in tax revenues. That’s the money that pays for these insane salaries. And if there are problems with “libraries” and “books”, the money will be going to pay for those $100,000 salaries.
Sorry kids, we can’t afford those books because your teacher who doesn’t know anything, but has an MA, is getting a salary that’s twice what your parents make.
