When you run out of birdbrains eager to blow themselves up for 72 virgins, why not try actual birds? That seems to have been the thinking here. That and the constant projection.
Hamas and other Muslim countries have accused Israel of using birds as agents before. So they decided to try it too. But birds are less likely to want to commit suicide than Hamas supporters.
A bird was sent from Gaza into Israel with a flammable substance attached to it.
The falcon was found Monday near the Besor River, the longest river in the Negev. A harness with explosive material was attached to the animal’s leg.
Thousands of fires have been set in southern Israel in recent months by arson attacks originating from Gaza. Terrorists started the fires by attaching firebombs to kites and helium balloons and sending the devices over the border with Israel.
Unlike Hamas suicide bombers, birds don’t self-detonate. And they’re not looking for 72 virgins. So this was never a very good plan to begin with.
But I’m sure PETA will be on this soon enough.
As they have since 1995, Palestinian terror organizations again used an explosive-laden donkey to try to kill Israelis.
On July 18, Israel Defense Forces in the Rafah area noticed a donkey approaching, and opened fire, causing the explosives to detonate, according to an IDF blog post.
“This cruel incident” was just one of many similar times when animals were used to carry explosives, the IDF blog noted. Ingrid Newkirk, president of PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, condemned the incident.
However, during the Second Intifada in 2003, when a Palestinian terrorist strapped a bomb to a donkey and then exploded it remotely, Newkirk wrote a letter of outrage to Yasser Arafat, then the president of the Palestinian National Authority.
In a letter addressed to “Your Excellency,” Newkirk wrote, “If you have the opportunity, will you please add to your burdens my request that you appeal to all those who listen to you to leave the animals out of this conflict.”
That’s what happens when you have your moral priorities in order.
