After years of legal and PR defenses that included the leadership of the intelligence community claiming that his laptops were really Russian plants, a wealthy sugar daddy and an art deal, it’s over.
The Biden coup turned Hunter from a potential election changer to a lame duck’s scion. The establishment, the media and key donors no longer feel like they need to invest in Hunter.
After being convicted of the gun charge, Hunter has now decided to plead guilty on the tax evasion case. (Hard to imagine a defense there anyway.) Don’t look for Hunter to do any hard time, he is a Democrat princeling anyway, but he’s no longer inside the privileged bubble of being the president’s son either.
His key financier and backer abandoned him. And without that, the legal and financial challenges of dealing with high-profile federal cases are too much, as they are too much for the Trump associates targeted by Biden’s DOJ.
That’s why Hunter was the loudest voice urging his father to stay in the race. But eventually, Joe gave in, even though he feared what would happen to Hunter. As a lame duck, Joe Biden has a free pass to pardon his son. It’s his last meaningful ability to intervene on Hunter’s behalf. AG Merrick Garland is a lame duck. Biden already resents him and Kamala will replace him with her brother-in-law. So Garland has no reason to risk his standing to bail out Hunter. But you can expect Joe Biden to sign a whole lot of pardons on the way out (this has become a corrupt bipartisan tradition) and while I can’t think of a president who pardoned his own son, what has Joe got to lose?
And that may also be why Hunter is pleading guilty. He no longer has to prop up his father. And he doesn’t have to worry about real consequences. There will be financial ones, that he likely won’t be able to pay anyway, but he wasn’t going to be a businessman again after those disastrous years and without a father in the White House.
Hunter will be just another failed political clan member and there’s lots of those around. Just ask the Kennedy family.
Joe Biden’s career is over. But Hunter’s gonna need a new grift. Perhaps a reality show or a podcast.

President Trump’s children have never been in trouble with the law – the paparazzi has never caught them in intoxicated or slutty behavior. President Trump must be an amazing dad with his children being so engaged and with children of their own.

Hunter pled guilty a) because he knows he will be pardoned, and more importantly, b) because a trial would have revealed information to incriminate his father.

Now that Joe is no longer running for re-election, though, there’s nothing really stopping him from giving Hunter a pardon.
