A basic question.
As the Biden administration rushed to meet the Taliban’s red line for retreating from Afghanistan, the talking point that every administration official from Biden on down used was that they were going to get those Americans out who “want to leave”.
Recently, Secretary of State Antony Blinken was gaslighting the media by insisting that the Americans that his administration had abandoned in Taliban territory had family ties and wanted to stay.
And yet, not only has the media been full of accounts from U.S. citizens who want to leave Afghanistan, who were abandoned, left behind, and couldn’t even get to or into Kabul airport, but the State Department is also boasting of getting four Americans out.
A senior State Department official told reporters on Blinken’s flight that Washington has facilitated the safe departure of four more Americans overland from Afghanistan.
Four is on the weak side. But it also shatters the same narrative that Blinken and his cronies had been putting out there.
If these 4 four Americans wanted to stay, then why did their departure need to be “facilitated”? And if they didn’t want to stay, then Biden left them behind.
Throughout this retreat, Biden and his people have tried to have it both ways, turning to gaslighting, false choices, and bizarre lies.
But either Americans were “stranded” in Afghanistan or they weren’t. After insisting otherwise, the State Department is effectively admitting that it lied, that Americans were left behind and need to be rescued.
