The good news is that it’s not just Republican officials who engage in a lot of virtue signaling and displays of performative hackery that everyone but the uninitiated understands is a way to boost their own standing while accomplishing absolutely nothing.
The Democrats are much more organized and focused, largely thanks to the network that Soros and some other mega-donors helped put into place, and the general fanaticism of the Left, but politicians are still politicians.
Here’s Rep. Jamie Raskin, whom you may recall as the red diaper baby who served as the impeachment manager, finding excuses for not delivering what his party had promised to its base.
The same base that it whipped up into a frenzy with promises that this time they’re going to get Trump.
Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), who served on the now-defunct Jan. 6 committee that referred former President Trump for criminal charges, said on Wednesday that nailing the former president on his various alleged crimes “would not be that satisfying.”
“We’re talking about a pathetic, old man, a coward,” Raskin told Andy Slavitt, a former official in the Obama and Biden administrations, in an interview for Slavitt’s podcast. “And so, even if he were to get his comeuppance in court finally in his late 70s or 80s, what would it really mean?”
“What we need to do is to figure out how to stop all of the Donald Trumps in the future and these horrific movements and forces he’s unleashed against us as a democracy,” Raskin added.
Ah yes, those future Donald Trumps.
Rep. Raskin is thinking that Trump might not be the nominee and it’s time to pivot to the ‘new Hitler’. There’s already been a fair share of media hit pieces warning that DeSantis would be even worse than Trump. If there’s some other third candidate, he’ll soon be fitted for the same hysterical smears. Ir doesn’t matter who he is.
Beyond that there’s the cold hard fact that there was never any serious case. This same couldn’t pull off the lower bar of impeachment, yet kept pretending that they had a criminal case. Now that the taxes are out, they’ve played their last card.
So what’s left? If Trump does run and becomes the nominee, they’ll find something to stir the pot, if only to rile up the base and generate a few more investigations, but this is the impeachment manager admitting that they have nothing and the whole thing is played out.
The trouble is that there’s a sizable contingent of leftist crazies who have lived for this very thing for 6 years who are howling, gnashing their teeth, calling Rep. Raskin a traitor and a sellout. TDS has been such a fundamental part of their lives and identities for so long that they can’t just walk away from it.
