Police in the Indian state of West Bengal have arrested a jihad recruiter attempting to flee to Bangladesh. The Indian news agency ANI described the apprehended terrorist as a “Pakistan-trained” operative and “an expert in IEDs and weapons handling.”
Javed Munshi, previously convicted in India on multiple terrorism charges, has been “accused of having close links with” Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen (TuM) terrorist group and “has been recruiting youths,” New Delhi-based Hindustan Times reported December 23.
The captured terrorist was being aided in his escape by Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), a Pakistan-backed terrorist group. Munshi “intending to exfiltrate into Bangladesh under instructions from Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) operatives,” the New Delhi-based Economic Times noted.
The latest arrest comes as Indian security services are alarmed at growing jihadist activities in Bangladesh. India’s Muslim-majority neighbor is reportedly becoming a ‘jihad hub’ for regional and global Islamic terrorist groups.
“Bangladesh is hosting Jammu and Kashmir terror groups because of pressure from anti-India groups like Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), also known as Ansar-al Islam Bangladesh and Jamaat-e-Islami,” the Indian TV channel News18 reported December 23. “Sources say Bangladesh is becoming a hub for all terror groups including Lashkar, ISIS and Al Qaeda,” the Indian broadcaster added.
“Bengal STF arrests Kashmiri terrorists, says was planning to cross over to Bangladesh,” Indian Express, December 23, 2024:
The Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal Police on Sunday said that it has arrested a Kashmir-based militant from Canning in South 24 Parganas district, bordering Bangladesh.
According to the STF, Javed Munshi, a Pakistan-trained IED expert, was planning to cross over to Bangladesh under the direction of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) operatives.
This is the second arrest involving terrorists in West Bengal in recent weeks.
“Munshi is affiliated to the banned terrorist outfit Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen (TuM). He has a criminal history, including alleged involvement in the 2011 murder of Shauqat Shah, a leader of the Ahl-i-Hadith, and has served multiple jail terms on terrorism-related charges,” said a senior STF officer.
“During interrogation, Munshi confessed to multiple visits to Bangladesh, Nepal, and Pakistan on fake Pakistani passports, as instructed by his handlers. He is also wanted by the Jammu & Kashmir Police,” the officer added.
Munshi was produced before a court in Alipore in Kolkata on Sunday. He was handed over to the J&K Police on transit remand for further investigation.
This article correctly calls Bangladesh a “jihad hub.” Compare that with a recent NY Times article completely ignoring the stated jihad and caliphate intentions of what it refers to as the “extremists.” At the same time, the article questions the validity of the reports of violence committed by the “extremists” on non Muslims, putting them in increased danger. The NY Times never met a growing jihad movement whose existence they wanted to deny. Shame on them for their cowardice.
NEW YORK TIMES, BBC and CNN have the same kind of report most of the time I ignore and don’t read the whole article. They are soft on not calling Islamic jihadi or extremist as long as they don’t call that Muslim and Islamic Jihadis there will be more and more jihadis. To take care the problem you have to address right calling can’t solve the problem with double stranded thinking we are hurting them not really. Actually we are helping them to identify their problem and let them sort out and fix it– WE CAN”T.
As a Bangladeshi American, I can tell you that there is massive censorship of Islamist violence against Hindus and other minorities. The censorship is being done by the so called “student activists” and the Yunus care taker government.. For example, this Christmas seventeen Christian homes in Bandarban, Chittagong.
