There are several ways to get rich in Old Joe Biden’s America. Among the most notable are winning an elected office, being the son of a major elected official, and being part of one of the left’s protected victim groups who can make a case for having been the victim of discrimination. That last one is why a woman in Tennessee, Sophia Johnston, is $100,000 richer today.
Of course, another feature of Old Joe Biden’s America is that $100,000 today amounts to only $14,474 in 1973 dollars, 1973 being the year Old Joe entered the Senate and began working for a better deal for the common man. So it cannot be said that winning her discrimination case has made Sophia Johnston rich, but still, $100,000 even in 2024 dollars is a nice chunk of change to get just for winning the victimhood jackpot.
The Nashville Tennessean reported Monday that Johnston “has reached a settlement with Rutherford County and members of the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office after she was forced to remove her hijab for a booking photo at the Rutherford County Detention Center in late August.” Johnston claimed that “the forced removal of her religious covering for a minor — and since dismissed — criminal booking violated her First Amendment right to practice her religion without interference.”
Even worse, Johnston contended, it was obscene. The Miami Herald reported in August 2023 that “forcing an observant Muslim woman to remove her hijab in front of men who are not family is ‘humiliating and degrading,’ according to the lawsuit, which likened doing so to making a woman remove her shirt in public.”
The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office folded easily in the face of the prospect of being accused of “Islamophobia”: “As part of the settlement, the county agreed to update its booking and jail policies to accommodate religious attire, delete Johnston’s booking photos and all video footage in which she was depicted without wearing her hijab, and pay her $100,000.” What? No all-expenses-paid vacation in an Islamic holy city of her choice? No valet service? What kind of a settlement is this?
A lucrative one. Daniel Horwitz, the chief of Johnston’s legal team, crowed: “This is a historic win for Ms. Johnston and her entire religious community. Citizens have the right to practice their religion without unreasonable governmental interference, and we are proud to have vindicated Ms. Johnston’s rights and secured permanent policy changes that will prevent violations like this from recurring. Every government agency in Tennessee should take notice.”
This was indeed “a historic win for Ms. Johnston and her entire religious community,” but it’s a loss for the safety and security of the people in Rutherford County. The reason why Muslim women are asked to remove their hijab for booking photos is because something could be concealed within it, including a weapon, and to enable more precise identification. But all that goes out the window when Muslim groups play the “Islamophobia” card.
The updated booking policy states that “arrestees and citation recipients are not required to remove religious head coverings for booking photos as long as the view of the face and profile are not obstructed by religious attire.” Great. Knives, drugs, and who knows what else could be hidden in there, but who cares? To maintain such concerns would be “Islamophobic.”
Johnston was understandably happy after her victory, saying: “I’m extremely grateful (for the results. It wasn’t just for me. It was something that I wanted to make sure I did for you all.… It feels like I’m not just a voice just for myself, (but rather) a voice to all religions to let them know that it’s okay to practice religion, to stand up for your rights and hopefully empower others to do the same thing.”
That’s marvelous. She is indeed a voice not just for herself, but for everyone who is aiding and abetting the breakdown of common-sense safety standards all over the country in the name of “equity” and the avoidance of “discrimination.” The next time someone conceals a weapon in headgear and attacks someone in a police station, Sophia Johnston and Daniel Horwitz should get a personalized thank-you card from the victim (or victims).
Johnston adds: “I just remember being feeling alone,” she said. “It took me through a lot of changes — a lot of PTSD even afterwards. I just felt like my rights were being violated in the worst way. … I’ve never done anything wrong in my life. So it was very different for me. And then having gotten to the point where my hijab had to be removed and everything, it was very scary for me.”
I’m so very sorry. But why should others now be endangered to make up for this unsettling experience?

Should have deported this Muslim before trial to her home country. Islam is a civilizational enemy to America and we had better understand this truth about Islam before it is too late and take appropriate action. I’m sure Daniel Horwitz will get to live, or not, with the consequences of his actions if/when people like Johnston get their way. There will be no thanks for his defense of this undermining of what used to be a high-trust society.
I worked in jails and prisons. Once someone is arrested or incarcerated, they automatically forfeit certain, or most, of their Constitutional rights, except those that the agency allows them to have. Care, custody, and control is paramount to most other things, even though every effort is made to accommodate, There’s always someone to deal with the female arrestees booking process and it’s always a female. Even in the last century and beyond, Departments had a matron to deal with the females. Religious freedom does not mean someone can do whatever they want, for example, human sacrifice to the Gods is still illegal in this country.
Not so sure about the human sacrifice bit – not only is the Satanic Temple doing a brisk trade in abortion rituals, but what is jihad if it isn’t the sacrifice of human beings to Allah? And yet it doesn’t trigger effective sanctions – perpetrators end up in mental health facilities, and the mainstream media assures us that their motivation is unknown.
And how did she get $100K? Because scumbag whites who were paralyzed by white guilt gave it to her.
City officials didn’t feel compelled to fight the claim because, after all, the settlement came from other people’s money.
She’s never done anything wrong in her life? Tosh, plus she was arrested for a criminal offence, and she may have been innocent, I agree, but we don’t know what the criminal offence was.

An incident at the University of NM about eight years ago:
Two Muslim female students went in the library and a fellow male math student ripped off one of the lady’s scarves. An argument took place, IN THE QUIET LIBRARY, and not one student out of the hundreds who have their cell phones ready for that possible viral video, FILMED IT! “COMO?”
She reported it to the Black radical DEI czar, Assata Zerai, only makes $259, 000 (Sunshine dot unm dot edu==Salary handbook) and wrote a long rant on her official page in support of BLM when her job is supposed to be All Lives/Students Matter.
It made national news. near riots at UNM, and yet, no math student was named, expelled, reported in the Daily Lobo. I THEN CALLED FOR A POLICE REPORT about three weeks later, NONE WAS FILED! WHY? Because the PD would have investigated and eventually found out that the woman filed a false police report and then action would have been taken for a HOAX. When I researched this incident, there were similar cases at other universities during the same time period… AKA CONSPIRACY TO PROMOTE ISLAMOPHOBIA!

Progressives have successfully turned the Free Exercise clause into a freedom to “worship” but not to “practice” if you are Christian. Christians must keep their faith relegated to the private realm of “worship.”
Muslims are commanded to “strike off our heads” as part of their practice. It is also an act of their worship — like raping little infidel children.

Sophia Johnston is free to “practice her religion,” including undergoing a clitorectomy, submitting to beatings from her husband (when he can take time from beating his other three wives), and cutting the throat of a terrified, bleating lamb in accordance with the requirements of a “halal” slaughter.
But a photo ID or mugshot of her wearing her “hijab” is worthless as identification: It’s a photo of her face-diaper’s fabric, NOT of her face.
This $100,000 “award” for the “discrimination” she “suffered,” or “infringement of her First Amendment religious freedom” is an absurd outrage, and should never have been made–certainly not without an energetic fight against it, using, at a minimum, the points I began this post with.
She can have all the religious freedom she wants to practice traditional Islam if she moves to a Muslim country. But from her name one gets the impression that she is an American-born convert and has no desire to go to, say, Afghanistan, where she will be free to practice Islam. She needs to make up her mind: Islam or America? Sha clearly can’t have both, as Islam is not compatible with American law and culture.
We had a lady named Bushra Noah here in the UK who took a hairdresser to a tribunal because she said that wearing a hijab was a bar to employment in her salon. The reasoning was that the hairstyles of salon operatives were an advertisement for the salon’s work. There is also the question of why an observant Muslim lady would want anything to do with the hairstyles of decadent Westerners. The tribunal turned down the claim for £35k, stating that they accepted that the salon owner would not have allowed other forms of headcovering, but still awarded the plaintiff £4k for “indirect discrimination” and “hurt feelings”.
HURT FEELINGS??? Is this where things are headed, as insanity moves from east to west?
May I ask for which criminal offense was she being booked? Was a police report Islamophobic? Did news reports violate her religious rights? Was the judge Islamophobic?
Why do we not read about the crime for which she was arrested? Did she even go to court for it?
I suspect this was a “historic” false flag incident – to get herself arrested so she can claim PTSD because her face was uncovered.
But a guy bnmed Jack cannot decline to use his creative artistry to make an item that he knows will be used to celebrate and promote an activity his (Jack’s) firmly held religions convictions cannot support or condone. And for that decision to NOT use his creative artictry to violate his own firmly held religions convictions AND EXERCISE he gets taken to court, charged, huge legal expenses lost, and his time…. more than one time.
Sheesh, why did not this sheriff’s department make a policy change on their own, and bring in a handful of females to handle the booking, no males able to observe? Seems part of her beef (or was it pork> I forget…) was that there were MALES observing her with her bathrobe removed, nad her bare mug for the mug shot. Have females on call (perhaps an uncomfortably long wait, but what’s the price of being “accommodated” anyway?
What about cavity searches for new inmates?
