Looks like the #MeToo movement has room to grow in the media after all, now that Jim Acosta is being honored with a press award.
According to a press release on April 12, the New York Press Club will give Jim Acosta their “Truth to Power” journalism award.
The Wrap reported that the award honors “an individual whose body of work challenges the power establishment and/or defends journalists.”
We are proud to honor a man such as Jim Acosta, who has proven himself throughout his storied, decades-long career to be a journalist of the utmost integrity, ” Jane Tillman Irving, president of the Press Club, said in the release. “For his unwavering commitment to fact and journalism, we are pleased to add to Jim’s many accolades with the Gabe Pressman ‘Truth to Power’ award.”
Here’s Jim Acosta fighting “power” in the form of a young female intern.
As President Trump held the traditional post-midterm news conference, CNN White House correspondent Jim Acosta continued to speak after the president told him, multiple times, “That’s enough.” A young female White House intern attempted to take the microphone from Acosta to hand it to another reporter. Acosta forcibly held onto the microphone, at one point making contact with the woman’s arm and placing his hand over hers as they wrestled for the mic. After a brief struggle, he managed to overpower her and she was obliged to kneel down and wait for him to finish. In response, the White House revoked Acosta’s White House pass, citing his physical interaction with the intern.
The media went to bat for Acosta. And now it’s giving him an award for fighting “powerful” interns.
