Linda Stasi is one of the very worst people in the media. And that’s saying something.
The clickbait cockroach survived the Daily News’ purge of half its staff. And now she’s got more clickbait garbage bemoaning the public’s contempt for her despicable profession.
This past week, The Daily News BECAME the news when many of our staff were let go. They were, and are, good, truthful reporters and decent, hardworking people and tough-ass journalists who fought the shrinking economic realities of covering the news in what is — we keep hearing, anyway — our booming economy. We all do this every day while simultaneously fighting the White House’s description that we are now “the enemy of the people.”
They were dumped because of the Daily News’ digital strategy. A strategy to which Stasi’s hateful clickbait is integral to. The former Post film critic is bemoaning the firing of actual journalists and dismantling the print paper while the former paper focuses on having more shrieks gibbering hatred for clicks from the likes of her.
And then Stasi uses their plight to burnish her non-existent martyrdom.
Could she get any lower? Of course she can.
In fact, we proudly ARE the enemy of the people — of the people now in power, at least — who don’t believe in the words of the First Amendment, which guarantees us the right to write the truth.
Yes, I said “write the truth,” because we reporters, in this, the neo-McCarthy era of suspicion and hate, aren’t allowed, like the most powerful man in the world, to make up fake news, fake statistics or to report nutty conspiracy theories as truth.
The truth? Here’s Linda Stasi’s most famous and disgusting column. The hateful harridan wrote it in the aftermath of the San Bernardino Massacre carried out by Islamic terrorists at an office Christmas party.
Stasi pushed a fake news conspiracy theory smearing one of the victims after his own death. “One of their victims was just as bigoted” was part of her actual headline.
Beneath a photo of Nicholas Thalasinos, one of the terror victims wearing a Tallit, a Jewish garment, Stasi accused him of being “hate-filled”, “bigoted” and “NRA-loving”. Another link also implied that the terror victim was Jewish. He wasn’t. But he did leave behind a wife and two children.
Those two children have to live not only with the murder of their beloved father, but with the Daily News and Stasi smearing him after her death.
“Jenn and Nick had a truly romantic, fairy tale love, having first met online via Beauty and the Beast fandom (the CBS TV show from the 80’s) and shared their love for science fiction and fantasy and had a very deep, spiritual relationship. They went through quite a lot in their 14 years together, loss, health issues, but always had each other to depend on. Jenn is going to be going through more than we’ll ever be able to understand and we hope this will help ease her life just a little.”
But here’s how Linda Stasi smeared this man and his wife.
One man, the Muslim, was a loser who had to travel all the way to Pakistan to get himself an email bride. (I refuse to add to their fame by using the killer and his murderous wife’s names.) …The other man, the victim, Nicholas Thalasinos, was a radical Born Again Christian/Messianic Jew, who also connected with his future wife online and had traveled across the country to meet her.
There really are no words for this kind of evil. But there’s more. With Linda Stasi, every sewer leads to another even lower sewer.
The victim is also inaccurately being eulogized as a kind and loving religious man… Make no mistake, as disgusting and deservedly dead as the hate-filled fanatical Muslim killers were, Thalasinos was also a hate-filled bigot. Death can’t change that… Thalasinos was an anti-government, anti-Islam, pro-NRA, rabidly anti-Planned Parenthood kinda guy
Now Stasi whines that the public doesn’t like the media.
If we make something up, we don’t do so without facing a firing squad. If we make mistakes, we run a correction. We aren’t permitted by our bosses or by our consciences to double down on misinformation.
Linda Stasi has no more idea of what a conscience is than words like ‘truth’, ‘decency’ or ‘right and wrong’. A conscience requires a soul.
But you just don’t believe us. In fact, a recent Axios/SurveyMonkey poll showed that 72% of those surveyed believe that the media “knowingly report false or misleading stories at least sometimes.”
I can’t imagine why.
The enemy of the people doesn’t just mean that the media is the enemy of Trump. It’s also the enemy of ordinary people like Nicholas Thalasinos.
And if you’re killed in a terrorist attack, know that enemies of the people, of everything human and decent, like Linda Stasi will smear your name and inflict suffering on your children.
