Rep. Amash is going all the way. At least The Bulwark will finally have a candidate that it can get behind.
Rep. Justin Amash (I-Mich.) announced on Tuesday that he has “launched an exploratory committee” to seek the Libertarian Party’s 2020 nomination for a possible third-party presidential run.
The Libertarian Party nomination is like winning a tic-tac eating contest. It’s not that hard if you’re really determined and it doesn’t count for much of anything.
Amash has always been an unpleasant creature, a left-over of a toxic movement in American politics, whose few House members keep clashing with President Trump, or clashing and then pretending not to.
Amash has stopped pretending. But the only purpose of this move would be to help elect Biden. Amash won’t be taking away any votes from Biden. The calculation is to try and pull a Nader that will revive the fortunes of his political cohort by turning the country over to the Left. Like lefties hoping for a depression, the Paultard crowd might be thinking that it’s a small price to pay to reorient the GOP.
