Kamala Harris is in theory the front runner in 2028. At least if you believe the polls. But somehow every time that Kamala appears in public, she somehow manages to embarrass herself. It’s a dubious achievement, but it’s all hers.
Former Vice President Harris made her debut at the Met Gala this year. Harris’s Met Gala look selection was custom-made by the clothing brand Off-White. A photo featured in Vogue’s reporting on Harris’s attendance at the event shows the former vice president in a floor-length dress split between black and white at her right shoulder.
Is this making some dubious point about race? Of course it is.
Harris’s selection of Off-White, a brand founded by legendary Black designer Virgil Alboh, is notable given this year’s Met Gala theme of exploring Black style through “Tailored for You.” This year’s gala is the first to specifically focus on Black designers.
Vogue has said that this year’s Met Gala theme looks through the tailoring of clothing when it comes to shaping Black identities, featuring a focus on the “emergence, significance, and proliferation of the Black dandy.”
Ibrahim Kamara, Off-White’s art and creative director, told Vogue in a statement that for him, “the true core of dandyism is rooted in confidence and strength.”
“There is no person who exemplifies these characteristics more than Kamala D. Harris, someone who has overcome adversity and continues to be a beacon for so many,” Kamara added.
Kamara, not to be confused with Kamala, claims that Kamala represents the true core of dandyism. Kamala doesn’t have much in the way of achievements (I doubt Kamara does either) but loving fashion is definitely one of them. I’m not too sure that a love of high fashion is a huge selling point to today’s voters, but no one can take if away from Kamala who began dressing in high end fashion during her dubious career as a prosecutor back in San Francisco. The clothes were reported funded by her boyfriend, Willie Brown.
Now that’s overcoming adversity.
The Kinks were good. I prefer “A dedicated follower of Fashion,” though.
Cause my hair is curly
Just because my teeth are pearly
Just because I always wear a smile
Like to dress up in the latest style
Cause I’m glad I’m livin’
I take these troubles all with a smile
Just because my color’s shady
That’s the difference, maybe, why they call me
Shine, sway your blues’ies
Why don’t you shine?
Start with your shoes’ies
Shine each place up, make it look like new
Shine your face up, I want to see you wear a smile or two.
Why don’t you shine your these and thoseies?
You’ll find everything gonna turn out right fine
Folks will shine up to ya’
Everybody’s gonna howdy doody do-ya’
You’ll make the whole world shine
Oh chocolate drop, that’s me…
Cause my hair is curly, (man’s got curly hair)
Now just because my teeth are pearly, (also got pearly teeth)
Just because I always wear a smile, (oh keep on smiling)
Like to dress us, babe, in the latest style
Cause I’m glad I’m livin’
I take these troubles all with a smile
Now just because my color’s shady (you’s a shady baby)
That’s the difference, maybe, why they call me…
Shine away your blues’ies
Shine, start with your shoes’ies
You’ll make the whole world shine.
I was always under the impression that calling someone “a dandy” was an insult. Like “ain’t she a dandy “ as in annoying, arrogant, rude and ignorant. I guess it does work in this case.
It is an insult. It means a fop. A guy overly concerned with his clothes and appearance. A prissy miss.
Why do lefties always claim privileged lefties suffer from “adversity?” What is it with those people?
