“I think the most important and most significant aspect of my policy perspective and decisions is my values have not changed,” Vice President Kamala Harris said during a pre-taped CNN interview on August 29th. She is right. Her left-wing, progressive values have not changed at all during her entire political career. These include her beliefs in massive wealth redistribution, a big intrusive government, distrust of law enforcement officers, providing a path to U.S. citizenship for illegal immigrants, and a worldview revolving around group identity and intersectionality rather than the individual.

Vice President Harris was responding to a question that CNN’s Dana Bash asked about Harris’s flip-flops on a number of key policy proposals, such as Medicare for All and a ban on fracking, since becoming the Democrats’ 2024 presidential nominee. She supported both of these radical policies during her failed 2020 presidential campaign but has now reversed herself in pursuit of moderate voters.

Kamala Harris’s change of positions on specific policies is a tactical maneuver designed to fool the American people into believing that she is a centrist, which she is not. But by declaring that “I think the most important and most significant aspect of my policy perspective and decisions is my values have not changed,” Kamala Harris was sending a signal to her progressive supporters. She wanted to assure them that, whatever flip-flops she feels she must make to get elected, they could count on her to support their left-wing agenda if she wins the election.

Thus, it is no surprise that major progressive organizations have endorsed Kamala Harris for president. For example, Progressive Democrats of America voted to support her candidacy, the first time it has ever endorsed a candidate in the general presidential election. Alan Minsky, the executive director of Progressive Democrats of America, said, “When Biden stepped down and Harris stepped up, we felt a huge groundswell of support from our base for Harris — and that included many of our activists.”

The left-wing progressive base of the Democratic Party will expect payback for its “huge groundswell of support.” And they will get it. Kamala Harris’s values reflect progressive values. And, by her own admission, her values have not changed.

“Instituting a wealth tax is imperative to rebalance wealth distribution in America,” Progressive Democrats of America states on its website.

Kamala Harris shares this progressive value, which is centered on the belief that massive wealth redistribution is necessary to build a society based on equity and economic justice.

Thus, the Democratic presidential nominee’s economic plan includes a 25% tax on unrealized gains – i.e., paper profits on unsold assets- for American households whose wealth exceeds a $100 million threshold. The “wealth” tax and all the other redistributionist taxes Kamala Harris is proposing, such as her job-killing rise in the corporate tax rate above the rate levels of U.S.’s major competitors, would fund progressive giveaways that Harris supports.

In short, Kamala Harris is a tax-and-spend progressive redistributionist.

Another progressive value that Kamala Harris embraces and that she has not changed during her political career is her belief in federal government control over many aspects of the economy and over our daily lives. In keeping with this value, she recently proposed federal price controls on grocery prices to combat what she claims is price gouging in an industry with a paltry profit margin of between 1 and 3%.

Kamala Harris’s push for more affordable housing includes federal intervention to reverse local governments’ single-family home zoning regulations that have protected neighborhoods from the ills of dense urban housing developments. Housing activists aligned with the Yes in My Back Yard (YIMBY) movement that originated in San Francisco are ecstatic. Kamala Harris, who started her political career in ultra-liberal San Francisco, is on the San Francisco activists’ side in their war on suburbia. The activists even held a virtual “YIMBYs for Harris” fundraising event to show their gratitude.

Kamala Harris believes that the federal government should require schools to allow transgender students the choice of using the bathrooms and locker rooms that align with their preferred gender rather than their biological sex. Yet Ms. Harris opposes allowing parents the choice of using their children’s allotment of public education funds to pay for nonpublic schooling alternatives instead. The teachers’ unions who have endorsed her candidacy would expect nothing less.

Before Vice President Harris became the Democrats’ nominee for president, she supported an electric vehicle (EV) mandate. After launching her presidential campaign, she flip-flopped and now claims to oppose the EV mandate. But this is disingenuous. Since launching her presidential campaign, Ms. Harris has not distanced herself from the Biden-Harris administration’s stringent tailpipe emissions rule which, as described by the New York Times, “increasingly limits the amount of pollution allowed from tailpipes over time so that, by 2032, more than half the new cars sold in the United States would most likely be zero-emissions vehicles in order for carmakers to meet the standards.”

Government measures to strongarm vehicle manufacturers into producing more electric vehicles and less gas-powered vehicles will ultimately achieve the same intended effect as if a direct mandate were imposed on American consumers requiring them to purchase electric vehicles. American consumers will have less and less choice as to the types of vehicles available for purchase in the marketplace because of the Biden-Harris tailpipe rule, which will throttle the ability of manufacturers to supply gas-powered vehicles that are in compliance.

Consumers have not flocked to EVs to date when left alone to make their own purchasing decisions. But the Biden-Harris administration does not care what consumers want. All that matters is making good on its extreme Green New Deal agenda, which Kamala Harris would carry forward as president.

Kamala Harris not only supports federal government intervention into the marketplace of products and services to achieve what the government considers to be the “public good.” Kamala Harris believes that the federal government directly, or indirectly through pressure it exerts on social media platform providers, should control the marketplace of ideas to censure what it considers to be “misinformation” or “hate speech.” Progressives like Ms. Harris have no problem scuttling the First Amendment’s protection of freedom of expression if it serves what they consider to be a higher ideological purpose.

“We need sweeping changes to systemic race-based policing policies and practices,” Progressive Democrats of America states on its website.

Kamala Harris has adopted the progressive mindset that distrusts law enforcement officers – the police and immigration agents alike – throughout her political career.

While serving as California’s junior senator, Kamala Harris co-sponsored the anti-police George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. This legislation, which did not pass, would have lowered the legal standard for prosecuting police officers and limited qualified immunity as a defense. It would also have established a federal database on alleged police misconduct and required local and state law enforcement agencies that receive federal grants to collect and report use of force data, disaggregated by race and religion.

After becoming the vice president, Kamala Harris continued to press for passage of the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. She said last year, “As Vice President of the United States, we demand that Congress pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. Joe Biden will sign it and we should not delay and we will not be denied. It is non-negotiable.”

Progressive Democrats of America calls on its website for replacing the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) with “an agency whose first mission is human rights, fairness, and family unification.”

Vice President Harris said during her CNN interview last month that “My value around what we need to do to secure our border, that value has not changed.” What really has not changed is her distrust of the law enforcement agents deployed by ICE.

ICE’s central mission is to secure our nation’s borders. To fulfill this mission successfully, ICE tries to keep migrants from illegally entering the country in the first place, and it apprehends as many illegal immigrants as it can who manage to cross the border into the U.S. Through its open border and catch-and-release policies, the Biden-Harris administration has worked at cross purposes with ICE’s mission. Kamala Harris has consistently sought to impede ICE’s work, both before and after she became the Biden administration’s so-called “border czar.”

As California’s attorney general, Kamala Harris supported limiting local police and sheriff cooperation with federal immigration agents.

In a June 2018 MSNBC interview, then-Senator Harris said that ICE’s “mission I think is very much in question and has to be reexamined.” She went even further, declaring that “we need to probably even think about starting from scratch because there’s a lot that is wrong with the way that it is conducting itself and we need to deal with that.” That same year, during a Senate hearing, Harris compared ICE’s use of its law enforcement powers to the tactics of the Ku Klux Klan.

Vice President Harris rushed to judgment in September 2021 by accepting as true the preposterous allegation that ICE agents on horseback whipped Haitian migrants trying to cross over into Texas. She said at the time that the alleged incident “invoked images of some of the worst moments of our history, where that kind of behavior has been used against the Indigenous people of our country, it has been used against African Americans during times of slavery.” The allegation was proven to be false, but Harris has not apologized to the ICE agents whom she smeared. She went out of her way to demean ICE agents who risk their lives trying to secure the border.

Progressive Democrats of America states on its website that “We strongly support federal legislation that will give legal status and a path to citizenship for all undocumented persons living in the United States.”

During her acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention, the Democrats’ presidential candidate declared that “We can create an earned pathway to citizenship — and secure our border.” But incentivizing more illegal immigrants to make their way to the United States with a promise of a “pathway to citizenship” is a course of action that is completely at odds with securing our border.

Finally, progressives have placed increasing importance on the twin values of group identity and intersectionality that demand preferential treatment for marginalized groups with intersecting histories in the United States as alleged victims of oppression and systemic bias. For her part, Kamala Harris has denigrated America as still being a systemically racist country. She also decried last year what she claimed was the “intersection” of “attacks on voting rights, women’s reproductive health rights, and LGBTQ rights.”

There is one value of critical importance to the American people that has eluded Kamala Harris – telling the truth to voters about her left-wing, progressive ideology that she will pursue vigorously if elected president.
