Some people have noticed that Los Angeles is on fire. And it’s true, but more importantly it’s really breaking all sorts of ceilings. And not just with fire, but also with diversity.
Los Angeles Fire Department Chief Kristin Crowley is used to shattering glass ceilings. She isn’t just the first LGBTQ+ person to the lead the department, but also the first woman.
“Countless people come up and say because you’re out there being who you are and your proud of who you are, that gives them strength,” said Crowley.
“I am different, but there’s a lot of difference everywhere in the world. Within the fire service, within the LAFD. I turned it around and looked at it as a true advantage. These other areas i represent from sexual orientation to my gender, to my upbringings. We all our different, but that’s a strength of ours,” said Crowley.
Crowley is a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community and says the LAFD has come a long way in terms of inclusion adding there’s a ways to go. Crowley believes the more diverse the LAFD, the better the department is at serving a city as diverse as Los Angeles.
I don’t know, I think maybe having a bunch of people who know how to fight fires would work better. As it has for all these many years.
What a day to celebrate the tremendous achievement of our gritty and determined @Dodgers with the #CityofLosAngeles and @MayorOfLA Your #LAFD working together in @UnifiedLA to ensure your safety today – thank you for celebrating responsibly #GoBlue pic.twitter.com/tXfheJEnBR
— Chief Crowley (@LAFDChief) November 1, 2024
But LAFD went DEI. And in the process probably drove away countless qualified firefighters.
Mayor Eric Garcetti today, alongside Fire Chief Kristin Crowley, launched the Los Angeles Fire Department’s first-ever Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Bureau (DEI) focused on ensuring a safe, diverse, and inclusive workplace for all.
“We believe in, and are committed to, justice in Los Angeles — and we focus an equity lens on every aspect of our work,” said Mayor Eric Garcetti. “The Bureau of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion will help to ensure that our progress is permanent and we’re always moving forward with a city government and institutions that reflect and value our diversity.”
In January 2022, Mayor Garcetti appointed Chief Crowley, the first woman to lead the City’s Fire Department. This year, of the more than 6,500 applicants to LAFD, 70% were people of color and nearly 8% of candidates were female, which is double the current percentage of female firefighters within the Department.
“The LAFD is fully committed to creating positive change,” said Fire Chief Kristin Crowley. “With the new DEI Bureau, the Department will develop and drive forward key diversity, equity, and inclusion strategies and initiatives to enhance the LAFD’s work environment and performance. We will maximize our efforts to build and promote a culture where our diversity is truly valued and our work environment is safe and supportive for all.”
Right now, I think even the most die-hard woke in LA would take competence over diversity.

The idiocy of DEI. Especially in the Fire Department.
The same thing happened during the Great Oakland Fire of 1991. They had just put an inexperienced black guy in as fire chief.
I happened to have to drive to the SF Airport that evening, so as I drove along the freeway I had a birds eye view of the fire, all the way from El Cerrito to Oakland.
Some months later we visited the fire location. I still remember some poor guys burnt down house and seeing the twisted metal (melted from the heat of the fire) that used to be his exercise equipment.
Thanks very much Daniel for keeping us posted on the LA fires !!!!! I have been wondering what is going on there, fortunately I am too far away to get good local news about it.

Uhm, can a girl, any girl, carry a couple hundred pounds of firehose up a ladder or down one, or an unconscious man, can they do all the strength tests required to do their job? I am a girl and I am pretty sure the unequivocal answer to that is a big fat NO! Fat people? NO. Girls? NO. Tiny little men? NO. I want big strong guys in my fire department.
And Cali? They have let their forest management go to 5hit! I spoke to an old man who had worked in forest management out there in the 1960’s and he said they had over 1,000 employees, probably more. No problems as they kept fire barriers, cleaned out forest of old dead wood – now? Nada! Burn California and remove yourself from the rest of our country.
If you voted for this for the last half century then you are complicit. So so sad.

If it’s anything like the rest of the government class sector, they’ve replaced the thousand fire line workers of yesteryear with 10,000 fat-assed desk-jockey DEI apparatchiks. Nobody’s left who can do the heavy lifting. Those who are left are as useless as balls on a heifer..
TruthLaser says
You are so right. I remember when New York City fireMEN were trained to use a rope to swing into a window and exit from the window holding the rope with one hand while carrying two infants with the other hand. That is Tarzan level ability. Jane need not apply.
Jeff Bargholz says
I’ve hiked on old fire roads outside of San Jose here. They’re well built but unmaintained. They were built so well though that they seem indestructible. The builders planted eucalyptus trees at the edges to preserve soil erosion. Very clever.

OMG I hate this site for moderating a comment I have made and there is nothing profane or anything in it other than the truth, or I should say facts.
teatwaffle says
Your comment is awaiting moderation.

I think some people get put on lists, and then everything they submit is held for a time before being listed. Most of my comments initially are, but are then made visible.
Jeff Bargholz says
Yes, me too. I’m surprised when one gets approved instantly.
Rob A says
Get use to it. It happens to my quite often. So much so that I’m about ready to throw in the towel and take my leave of FPM.
By the way, like many other news & info websites that have grown over the years, at some point FPM is going to want to monetize their comments section by going to a system where only paid subscribers can leave comments.
FPM’s free and open comments section is not going to exist for much longer. Enjoy it while it lasts.
BTW: I’m all but certain that the FPM moderator will permanently ban me for saying what I said above. Oh well……. Sh*t happens!
Site Administrator says
As is stated quite clearly beneath the comments section:
In order to eliminate spam comments that have historically flooded our comments section, comments containing certain keywords will be held in a moderation queue. All comments by legitimate commenters will be manually approved by a member of our team. If your comment is “Awaiting Moderation,” please give us up to 24 hours to manually approve your comment.
There are no “lists” of individuals who require moderation, nor are profanities the only words that trigger moderation. We are forced to put most comments into a moderation queue in order to weed out hundreds of spam comments that bots attempt to post on our articles everyday, promoting porn sites, fake supplements, gambling scams, and more.
We will not be charging money to comment on free FPM articles.
Thanks,

I understand your reasoning. I was once a moderator for a well known conservative news & info website. The site experience steady growth over time until the owner has to hire IT professionals to run the site.
The site’s contents was monetized and shortly that, the moderators (there were 4 of us) were dropped. But we got a nice thank you card in the mail and a free $20 gift certificate for Starbucks coffee though.
The site’s owner was a long time personal friend of a former colleague of mine. A large national following and money changed the owner..
That’s likely to eventually happen to FPM but time will tell. Money and the acquisition thereof has a way of changing the noblest of intentions.
Jeff Bargholz says
“Porn sites, fake supplements, gambling scams, and more.”
What is it with spam like that? Nobody pays for that crap. We all delete it.

Crowley is a woman? My ass. that’s a man.
I’m so sick of trannies pretending to be women.

I think even the most die-hard woke in LA would take competence over diversity.
The city needs an independent, expert investigation as to why the fire department has performed so poorly and why the problems with water to fight the fire. Most sane people already know the answers but it will be good to have these confirmed by the investigation and the authorities shamed and called to account.
Gordon says
Incorrect, the people of LA will continue to vote for the same idiots that got them into this mess. An “independent, expert” investigation initiated by LA or Sacramento would conclude that DJT and climate change are the problem and more DEI is the only solution.
Mike says
Whatever organization placed in charge of your proposed investigation, no doubt adheres to DEI principles. Good luck getting real facts or answers.

Wow, aren’t they glad they have a LBGT++++++++++++++ twit instead of a real fire fighter. California is the a-hole of our country. NOTHING good comes out of this dumpster fire.

Well said! And I’ve lived in this sh*thole state my entire life. There’s no disputing the truth and it would be hypocritical of me to defend this state against truthful accusations just because I live here. I’m a lot of things but a hypocrite is not one of them.
California is a sh*thole lorded over by arrogant self righteous demoncrap (aka, dummiecrat) dumbasses (that’s democrats for you folks in flyover country!)
The “dumbassery” that goes on in this ghetto outhouse state (re: California) is as astounding as it is mind numbing to say the least.

I’m beginning to think it was brimstone not fireworks that started this fire

I was a firefighter when I was a young man. It is an intensely physical occupation. I don’t care about one’s “orientation”; all that matters is are you capable of job performance… not once, not twice, but multiple times over a double work shift. DEI has no place in the fire service.
John C says
DEI has no place in America.
Rob A says

teatwaffle says
C’mon, it was the DEI incompetent hires wh0 destroyed the lefty mansions…. green new deal morons ” We need to punish the homeowners who clear the dead dried out brush” non-woke intelligent citizens who will soon leave the Idiocracy of Pelosi, Newsome, Schiff, California.
Rob A says
It must be a slow news day. Truth be told, the news media is sensationalizing what is fairly common in southern California and we all (Californians) know it, Every 5 to 10 years, there are major wild fires in that area during the Santa Ana winds season which is normal for this time of year. It’s nothing new.
The fires are usually started by homeless encampments in the hills, careless hikers or some rich dumb ass driving by and casually flicking a lit cigarette out the window of their car into dry brush.
And yet people keep rebuilding again and again in that area fully aware of the potential fire danger. that occurs annually. Two words for people like that: naive fools.
Most home insurance companies in southern California will not sell home insurance policies to people living in that area. Only the wealthiest people can get any kind of home insurance at all.
teatwaffle says
Ha ha … “in denial” moderators. That’s why the whole country hates the west coast. That’s why America is hoping that the “Big One” comes soon.
Jeff Bargholz says
I live in CA so I ain’t hoping for that. I actually fear it. I don’t want my apartment to crash on my head.
Gregory Wilson says
I hope it does not come either for your sake and many others, wishing bad things on others is cruel and satanic. I do not agree with most of your states nonsense and stupidity but the citizens vote in these monsters so it must be what you want. there is a better way of life out there we just wish that you all could wake up to that fact that paradise and equality will never exist on Earth aslong as humans are in control.
Algorithmic Analyst says
Actually citizens voted against the Democrats, but an Oakland judge overturned the election results, allowing in a flood of illegal immigrants. Since then the Democrats have rigged the elections with numerous subterfuges and now have an unbreakable lock. Hardly anyone out of state understands this. The Democrats want people to believe it is a popular movement but it was a judicial coup.
Ian D. Thoros says
Trying to communicate the consequences of public stupidity is very much like trying to warn someone else’s undisciplined kids about the dangers of playing on the edge of a cliff. No matter what you say, they’ll either ignore you or curse at you for attempting to “tell them what to do” as they step closer to the edge in a demonstration of defiance. If they fall, they will surely die, but because of their willful ignorance, they simply can’t accept that such an outcome could personally apply. Such a lack of foresight comes from either overprotection from consequence early in life or parents of the same ilk. Either way, we all are forced to suffer once they’re accepted as authority figures. The shortsighted call it a celebration of diversity, but the victims often call it something else.

The Mayor was in West Africa recruiting incompetent DEI fire Chiefs… Ooga Booga.

I don’t have to be a bigot to state that women have no place management or politics, unless they are the owners which the one in this article is not. Lesbians have the highest divorce rate of any in the LGBT community, which tells me their emotions make them unable to function in those positions. Does OAC ring any bells with you.

There is a point where lefty libertards in California say “enough” and demand resignations and recall and go in the direction of MAGA where this nation is heading – Gavin Newscum is out all the way down to mayors, fire chiefs, police chiefs and legislators
These DEI hires will come out with excuses and pass the blame and the buck

Obviously, Mother Nature is not a DEI proponent. Fire is suspicious since PG&E turned off the power lines when the forecast of extreme winds materialized.

And the Democrat Mayor of LA cut the money allocated to fire services for 2025.
A check of Los Angeles’ budget shows Democrat LA Mayor Karen Bass cut about $20 million from LA’s budget for fire services in this current fiscal year and she had demanded even higher cuts. This as massive wildfires devastate Los Angeles with at least 80K evacuating, and local reports show the LA fire department is running out of water. Mayor Bass had proposed about $23 million in cuts to the LA fire department. Mayor Bass was on a trip with a Biden delegation to Ghana overseas as local LA residents hammer her saying she should resign. $13 million of the cuts to the LA fire department were for operating supplies plus larger cuts to salaries.
Rob A says
I think it’s more like spent all the money allocated to fire services. The LA city council and the mayor get regular raise no matter how broke the city is and LA is broke. They jigger their books and finances using democrat math. (E.g.: 1 for me, 1 for you. 2 for me, 1 for you. 3 for me, 1 for you. 4 for me, 1 for you…. etc., etc..)
StanF says
When I was a kid there was a TV commercial for soap for hand-washing dishes that ONLY stressed how good the soap was for the skin on your hands. Even at age six I thought. “But does that soap get the dishes clean?!”

john blackman says
hopefully the victims will vote to change the current insanity . reminds me of the book published in 2018 . [ scorched worth ] by joel engel . the story follows the legal wrangling over who was responsible for the 2007 labor day fire . history repeats itself . nothing has changed and the people who run the state are still incompetent criminals in the guise of elected officials . this is what happens when govt. officials ignore sound advice and do what the fairies in their heads tell them to do . apparently they cant fight the current conflagration because they have no water ?! but they have lots of diversity . who knew !! once half of LA has been burnt to the ground maybe just maybe heads will roll namely because the wealthy suburbanites whose homes are ash will see the folly of voting for democrats , but im not going to hold my breathe .
