Why don’t more Jewish Democrats stand up to the anti-Semitism of Rep. Ilhan Omar and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez and their ilk?

Here’s a reminder of what happens when you do.

New Jersey Rep. Josh Gottheimer, a deep-pocketed leader among moderate Democrats in the House, is about to face a primary challenge from a local elected official who was campaigning for him just eight months ago.

Anita Kreibich — who, at 44, is the same age as Gottheimer — plans to file paperwork with the Federal Election Commission on Monday. She is backed by Anna Wong, a co-leader of the group Indivisible NJ 5th District, a grassroots, anti-Trump organization.

Gottheimer also has angered progressive Democrats by taking on members of his own Democratic caucus, including Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), for comments he alleged were anti-Semitic. Media outlets on the left have zeroed in on Gottheimer, with The Intercept publishing critical articles about him, including one that alleged he treated staff poorly.

The Intercept is a leftist dirty tricks operation. And here’s a dirty trick.

Rep. Josh Gottheimer is denouncing a letter mailed to elected officials in recent days that purports to be one from Gottheimer announcing his resignation because of a personal scandal.

The entire content of the letter is “completely untrue,” the Democrat from Wyckoff said in a statement on Monday.

“This disgusting smear campaign is a violation of federal law and is being criminally investigated by the U.S. Capitol Police,” he said. “I am confident that they will quickly identify and pursue charges against the perpetrators responsible for this crime.”

The one-page letter is dated July 29 and appears to be on official congressional letterhead. It includes a signature that does not match those found on Gottheimer letters his office has released in the past.

The letter falsely claims the congressman had a sexual relationship with a staffer. 

Of course we’re not going to have one of those media conversations about the fact that a Jewish House Dem criticized anti-Semitism by Rep. Omar and is now being hit with every dirty trick in the book. Nor are we going to discuss what this says about the Democrats.

But we are going to spend two days claiming that criticizing Baltimore is racist.
