The Left has taken over core American institutions from government to academia to corporations and turned them into machines for radical identity politics. This new identarian American Comintern aggressively exports its destructive racist revolutionary program, spreading Black Lives Matter riots from America to the UK, and shoving black supremacist politics as far as Japan. Other countries are becoming sick of the American Comintern. Understandably so.
French politicians, high-profile intellectuals and journalists are warning that progressive American ideas — specifically on race, gender, post-colonialism — are undermining their society. “There’s a battle to wage against an intellectual matrix from American universities,’’ warned Mr. Macron’s education minister.
Emboldened by these comments, prominent intellectuals have banded together against what they regard as contamination by the out-of-control woke leftism of American campuses and its attendant cancel culture.
The New York Times, whose article this is, is naturally in the vanguard of the attack. It was the Times that attacked France over violent Islamic terrorism.
The French were used to fairly positive coverage from the Times, they are after all socialists, but the identarian American Comintern requires the destruction of all traditional institutions and ideas, and replacing them with radical identity politics. Now that the media, including the Times, have gone all in on identity politics, the French are discovering that they’re being covered in a whole new way. Much like Pravda covered every country through the lens of Marxism-Leninism.
Mr. Macron’s education minister, Jean-Michel Blanquer, accused universities, under American influence, of being complicit with terrorists by providing the intellectual justification behind their acts.
A group of 100 prominent scholars wrote an open letter supporting the minister and decrying theories “transferred from North American campuses” in Le Monde.
A signatory, Gilles Kepel, an expert on Islam, said that American influence had led to “a sort of prohibition in universities to think about the phenomenon of political Islam in the name of a leftist ideology that considers it the religion of the underprivileged.’’
Along with Islamophobia, it was through the “totally artificial importation’’ in France of the “American-style Black question” that some were trying to draw a false picture of a France guilty of “systemic racism’’ and “white privilege,’’ said Pierre-André Taguieff, a historian and a leading critic of the American influence.
Much as the Times and the Left may fume, the rest of the world is getting sick of the American Comintern. It’s not just France. And as Hollywood gets woker and woker, that’s going to affect its ability to export its products. It’s also going to reduce the number of foreign students coming to America and will lead to overt efforts to prevent them from working in certain fields once they’ve graduated. A cordon sanitaire will grow, similar to the one around Soviet universities, with the sense that people under the influence of the American Comintern are untrustworthy, destructive revolutionaries who are disloyal and dangerous.
And certainly, anyone who is ‘woke’ fits that category. It doesn’t matter what nationality or religion they claim to be, they’re the equivalent of Communists during the Cold War. Any nation or religious movement needs to bar them, keep them out, and suppress their influence as much as possible.
And Americans need to take back their own country to avoid a repeat of Soviet history.
