How unpopular is Mayor Lori Lightfoot? So unpopular that she didn’t even make the runoff in the Chicago mayoral election.
The only one to be more humiliated than Lightfoot is Rep. Jesus “Chuy” Garcia who came in fourth.
Pretty pathetic showing for a congressman who’s refusing to concede.
Jesus “Chuy” Garcia was in fourth place at the end of election night, but said he had no plans to concede tonight and instead wanted to wait for mail in ballots to be counted.
Who does he think he is, Karen Bass? I don’t think enough harvesters are gonna show up to make that happen.
But this is an election with a 32% turnout so who knows.
What brought Lightfoot down, aside from the fact that everyone hated her and the city is a crime-ridden hellhole (not exactly new problems for Chicago’s bosses) was that she no longer had a lane.
The two candidates that will face off in the runoff are a pro-crime and a tough-on-crime candidate. Lightfoot tried to thread the needle, to have it both ways, and failed. Voters chose the two candidates who very clearly stand for something. And that means Lightfoot may, on the Los Angeles model, be replaced by a blatantly pro-crime candidate who will send the city to hell. Or by someone who will fight to redeem it.
Chicago voters rejected any middle ground. The choices for the runoff will be as stark as they get.
