The political media is currently shocked that a DOJ investigation of leaks would have dragged in House members on the Intelligence Committee.
It’s unprecedented. It’s unbelievable. How could any administration do such a horrible thing as grab the phone records of members of Congress?
“This appalling politicization of the Department of Justice by Donald Trump and his sycophants must be investigated immediately by both the DOJ Inspector General and Congress,” Schumer and Durbin, the top two Democrats in the upper chamber, said in a joint statement, adding that the Judiciary Committee “will vigorously investigate this abuse of power.”
The demands came after Democratic Reps. Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell were notified that the Justice Department under former President Donald Trump had seized their metadata from Apple three years ago as part of an aggressive crackdown on leaks related to the Russia investigation and other national security matters. That’s according to three people familiar with the seizures.
Schiff said the seizures suggest “the weaponization of law enforcement by a corrupt president.”
An investigation of a corrupt president and his weaponization of law enforcement? Great.
Can we get an investigation of the time that
1. The Obama administration targeted Trump associates based on false claims of a Russian conspiracy invented by the Clinton campaign
2. The Obama administration’s eavesdropping on conversations by House members
The latter is the Obama scandal that no one has heard of. Maybe it’s time for that to change.
The first public revelation that the White House was spying on high level members of the political opposition came in 2015. Members of Congress had been eavesdropped on as part of an operation to sabotage Prime Minister Netanyahu’s campaign against the Iran Deal.
Senior officials told the WSJ that those conversations collected by the NSA raised fears “that the executive branch would be accused of spying on Congress.” The White House wanted the information anyway, however, because it “believed the intercepted information could be valuable to counter Mr. Netanyahu’s campaign.”
I’m sure Schumer, Schiff and Swalwell will be happy to investigate this weaponization of law enforcement by a corrupt president.
Not to mention this abuse of power.
And since Democrats have decided that you can impeach presidents after they leave office, they can begin the impeachment of Obama.
