By now everyone has heard of the shooting at Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church — a mega-church, with 45,000 weekly worshippers — in Houston. We know that a woman wearing a trench coat and a backpack entered the church as the Spanish-language service was about to start. With her was a small boy, seven years old, believed to be her son. Once inside, she pulled out her long gun and fired, first hitting the boy in the head; he is in critical condition in a hospital. It’s unclear if she intended to hit the child. The boy may have been caught in the crossfire, and shot by the police (they haven’t said anything about who was responsible for hitting him).
She then got off another shot, lightly wounding a male worshipper. She was then killed by one of the church’s security guards. No one seems to have the faintest idea as to what prompted her. But there is one detail that might suggest a motive that some accounts leave out altogether, and others mention, but do not speculate as to its significance. More on this killing at the Lakewood Church can be found here: “Gun of Houston megachurch shooter read ‘Free Palestine,’” by Danielle Greyman-Kennard, Jerusalem Post, February 12, 2024:
The female gunman who opened fire into the Texas megachurch on Sunday afternoon had ‘Free Palestine’ written on her AK-15, according to media reports from the last 24 hours.
The shooter had also claimed, in a statement that was later proven to be false, that she had a bomb. The Houston police chief confirmed that no explosives had been found during the search of the woman’s backpack and car.
Fox News identified the shooter as a Transgender woman known as Genesse Ivonne Moreno. Born in El Salvador, the source claimed Moreno had a lengthy criminal history.
It was also reported by CNN that the woman had sprayed an unknown substance onto the ground before being shot….
The child, whose affiliation with the shooter is unknown [but is believed to be her son], is currently in hospital in critical condition after being shot.
Wearing a trench coat and backpack, according to CNN, the shooter arrived at the church at 2 pm. Two law enforcement officials [working a security detail for the Lakewood Church] quickly neutralized the woman before further damage could be done….
What is most peculiar is that very few of the mainstream newspapers mentioned that there was a “Palestine” sticker on her rifle (not, apparently, “Free Palestine” written on it, as the initial reports — as just above — stated, but the import is the same). Neither The New York Times nor The Washington Post mentioned that telling bit of information. It was, however, mentioned, on the websites, but not the actual broadcasts, of CNN, CBN, and ABC.
Now we have another reason to look more closely at her “Palestine” sentiment. Law enforcement officials found “antisemitic writings” in a search of items belonging to the shooter, but the police have refused to release any details. Could it be because those writings suggest a link between her and imams in this country spouting antisemitic hate, or her possibly participating in those “Justice For Palestine” groups that have been especially vocal since October 7? Eventually we will learn the full truth.
Or here is still another line of inquiry. Moreno was divorced from a man whose mother is Jewish. Her mother-in-law posted this on Facebook on Monday: “Although my former daughter-in-law raged against Israel and Jews in a pro-Palestinian rant yesterday, this has nothing to do with Judaism or Islam. Nothing! But this is what happens when reckless and irresponsible reporting lets people with severe mental illness have an excuse for violence.”
Did Moreno’s mental illness lead her inexorably to adopt anti-Israel and pro-Palestinian views? Is “Palestine” now the favorite cause-du-jour of the free-floating world-wide community of nitwits and lunatics? Some may well think so.
And now we have been told here that Moreno “was apparently a Hamas supporter” but no details have yet been released.
Just think if the shooter had a Trump Maga sticker on her rifle.
Now if they had been the Tea Party, NRA, Etc. the Media Vultures and Sharks would have feeding frenzy but since the Culprit is a Islamic Fanatic we get Crickets
Props to the security guards. Our congregation has a Safety Team that serves the same purpose. I participated in one of their drills and was impressed with the sophistication of their operation. Every house of worship should have one.
I expect there will be a movement to have a national Genesse Ivonne Moreno Transition Day in her honor.
After all we celebrate Saint George Floyd pretty much everyday.
Is this person’s Jewish ex-mother-in-law really so naive that she thinks that s/he/they/it railing against Jews and Israel and for “PALESTINE!!!!!” has “nothing to do with Judaism or Islam”? Of course, nowadays any pro Palestinian or antisemitic act the the legacy media can’t ignore is either “resistance” or “mental illness”, such as the Muslim in Paris who threw his elderly Jewish neighbor off a roof. Let off because =he was smoking pot. Must not have been a mellow high.
She probably belongs to The Congregation for Reform Judaism in Houston, which during the Holocaust forced its members to affirm under oath that they were not Zionists. BTW, it still exists and it still is promoting all that happy horseshit about “dialogue” with “Palestinians”
For Main Stream Media reporting on the right, small kernels of truth seem to deserve popcorning into a gotcha! Yet, as this fine article suggests, when MSM reports on the left, small kernels of truth can just disappear.
