Facts. Who needs them anyway.
Your average violent attack on an Asian person is carried out by exactly the kind of thug on whose behalf Black Lives Matter would burn down a city who is only wandering the streets because Democrat mayors and governors decided that freeing criminals is the new civil rights cause.
Every media article reporting on an anti-Asian attack dutifully mentions the false narrative that the attacks were caused by President Trump calling the coronavirus the Chinese virus.
The perp might be named Frederick Douglass Smith and he might be yelling, “I’m a contributor to the Obama administration you f***ing Asian c**t., but the story will still blame President Trump.
And yet it might be a little hard to blame Trump for the fact that the capital of anti-Asian attacks is in… Canada.
Last year, more anti-Asian hate crimes were reported to police in Vancouver, a city of 700,000 people, than in the top 10 most populous U.S. cities combined. With almost 1 out of every 2 residents of Asian descent in British Columbia experiencing a hate incident in the past year, the region is confronting an undercurrent of racism that runs as long and deep as the historical links stretching across the Pacific.
Vancouver does have a lot of Asians. So you’ll see more attacks against Asians in a city with a lot of them. Just as New York City is the capital of antisemitic hate crimes against Jews.
Combine that with urban density, and diversity, and you get crimes… and hate crimes.
The disproportionate rash of incidents has raised an unsettling question: Maybe Vancouver isn’t the bastion of progressive multiculturalism it thinks it is.
Or maybe it is. And that’s exactly the problem.
Instead, Bloomberg dives into history with the usual ‘racist past’ narrative.
The lyrics of White Canada Forever, a popular drinking song from that time, go: “We welcome as brothers all white men still, / But the shifty yellow race / Whose word is vain, who oppress the weak / Must find another place.” Tellingly, when the Ku Klux Klan agitated in Canada against Asian immigration in the 1920s, it chose Vancouver, where it notoriously kidnapped and tortured a Chinese servant, Wong Foon Sing.
White people today are less than half the population of Vancouver.
