This is a little revealing study in media bias.
When the Jordan Neely case first happened, the media did its usual biased coverage, but even the New York Daily News and New York Times mentioned Neely’s violent past.
That included breaking a 67-year-old woman’s nose, punching a 64-year-old man, trying to kidnap a 7-year-old girl, and threatening to kill a subway employee.
Also his grandfather.
Once Republicans embraced Daniel Penny, the heroic former Marine who helped restrain the subway psycho and prevent him from attacking any more elderly women or children, the coverage has changed dramaticallty.
Entire articles written about DeSantis’ support for Penny or that of other Republicans make zero mention of Neely’s violent attacks, his criminal record or anything about the incident except the false claim that Neely was just “asking for food”.
Typical of that is this wildly distorted paragraph, the only one in a “Republicans pounce” article by Politico.
“Neely, who was on the city’s “Top 50” list of homeless people at risk, was recorded screaming that he was hungry, “fed up” and “ready to die” before he was put in the chokehold that would end his life.”
No mention that multiple passengers had called 911 beforehand in a city where crazy guys yelling in the subway doesn’t mention more than a second glance.
We’ve obviously seen this with George Floyd before, but it’s still revealing that the trigger for this level of propaganda and censorship is the move by Republicans with a national profile like DeSantis to get behind Penny in order to attack Democrats for their pro-crime policies.
(Don’t call it soft on crime, it’s pro-crime.)
It’s all about power and the media brings out its top-level censorship and spin when its party is threatened. It’s only when Republicans got involved that the full censorship began.
