After Zohran Mamdani secured the Democrat nomination for mayor, millions of people around the country are wondering how the city that lived through 9/11 could have done this?
The answer is it didn’t.
Less than 30% of Democrats voted in the mayoral primary. Of those, supposedly, 43.5% voted for Mamdani. So some 12.9% of New York Democrats voted for Mamdani.
56% of registered voters in the city are Democrats so some 7.2% of city residents voted for him.
New York City has a population of 8.2 million. Of those 432,305 or 5% voted for Mamdani.
The media is doing its best to hype those numbers as a stunning mandate when what they really represent are high levels of turnout by white hipsters and Muslim immigrants who were enthused by the prospect of electing a Muslim terrorist supporter to run New York City.
Who are those 5%?They aren’t New Yorkers because polls showed us Mamdani performing poorly with anyone over 50, with African-American, Latino and working class white voters.
Mamdani’s base isn’t New Yorkers, it’s a coalition of white hipsters and Muslim immigrants, most of them weren’t even in the city during 9/11, like Mamdani, have no roots in the city, and no connection to its history. The quintessential New Yorker, as envisioned by a thousand Hollywood movies, TV shows and Broadway musicals, still exists, but is harder to find than ever. The city of those movies and shows can be glimpsed as a palimpsest under layers of chain stores, illegal migrants, social justice projects and vegan eateries before it vanishes again in the rain.
What happened to New York is what happened to legendary cities across the country and around the world, from Philly to London, which is that the revival of the 90s was the final act in driving out its working class and middle class population. Rents soared until the only young people who could afford to live there were white hipsters and third world immigrants.
And their politics became based on coalitions between the hipsters and the new arrivals. In New York City, as in London, it produced a Jihadist coalition that paved the way for a Muslim mayor.
Even by 9/11, New York City already wasn’t ‘that city’. The Giuliani revolution that swept out bums and criminals was a victim of its own success. Much of the middle class had already left which was why so many of the victims of 9/11 were commuters. Those who didn’t were soon completely priced out. The working class, the Irish, Jewish and Italian men and women who appear as comic characters in countless shows, were soon priced out of everything except projects. Even as the world mourned for New York, the New Yorkers were disappearing.
New York’s political system became a contest between establishment crooks from the old Democrat political machine and radicals from the new leftist insurgencies. Selecting Cuomo, an old crook with a venerable political lineage, to go up against a young hip radical was a political death wish. New Yorkers, with enough standards not to vote for Mamdani, were expected to go out and vote for a man they were almost certainly bound to hate and resent. The sudden unity behind Cuomo smacked of hypocrisy and made Mamdani seem like a genuine revolutionary.
Most New Yorkers didn’t vote. They stayed home and allowed the 5% of white hipsters and Islamists to have their way. Given a choice between two terrible candidates, in a city that has long since proven to be utterly corrupt, they opted out. They may have failed to protect the city, but the political establishment failed them badly and seems likely to fail all over again as it now has to revert to holding up Mayor Eric Adams as the last best hope for New York City.
In the 1991 Louisiana governor’s race between corrupt politicians Edwin Edwards and Neo-Nazi leader David Duke, bumper stickers read, “Vote for the crook, it’s important.” Voting for the crook may be important once more in New York City, but it’s not an ideal choice you want to give voters. Not unless you want below 30% turnout with the numbers favoring those who are most enthusiastic about their Neo-Neo-Nazi candidate and his plans to destroy the city.
New Yorkers needed a real choice and instead they got a choice between eating a dead rat and committing suicide. Only 5% chose to commit suicide, but most didn’t want to eat a dead rat either. And the dead rat strategy is going to be a longshot in any political campaign.
The best way to beat an evil candidate is with a better choice, not with a lesser evil.
New York’s political system, without meaningful Republican participation, has decayed into a one-party system. Its already corrupt rules were further rejiggered to favor radicals with ranked choice voting, and whose elections are as shady as those of Chicago, Philly and Los Angeles.
There’s no particular reason to trust the Mamdani election results than there is to trust the similar shady mayoral elections in Chicago and Los Angeles that gave their respective cities two radical destroyers in the form of Mayor Brandon Johnson and Mayor Karen Bass. It is all too possible that they will have a third candidate elected in a dubious election by a radical minority.
Maybe America and Europe’s big cities are beyond saving, but the low turnout shows that the city that survived 9/11 hasn’t turned evil, its people have either left or given up on politics.
New York City can be saved. But it will take a leader with a real message to do it.
Thanks Daniel, excellent coverage and analysis of New York politics. I always enjoy reading that.
So how much is Soros and his Ilk have to do with this all
But wait, yankees are so superior, everyone knows that! Just ask them, they will tell you. Actually you don’t even have to ask.
“New York City can be saved,” says Mr. Greenfield. “But it will take a leader with a real message to do it.” Jesus of Nazareth agrees: “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls” (Matthew 11:28-29).
A message, very much ,need to be sent to those stealth jihad- minded Muslims politicians, as Zohran Mamdani, who are running for government office in the USA who attempt to have Sharia law enacted in this country. They need to be reminded that the United States had something that is far better than Sharia law. It’s the US Constitution. This is America, not Saudi Arabia or Iran.
As the former US President, Theodore Roosevelt, had well-spoken when he declared in a speech “There can be no fifty-fifty Americanism in this country. There is only room here for only hundred percent Americanism, only for those who are Americans and nothing else.”
That Muslim politician, Zohran Mamdani, is one man of the entire scheme for the advancement of Islam with it’s Sharia. This sly and subtle , sometimes no so subtle, subversive infiltration in American and other Western governments is known as the stealth jihad. This Muslim scheme for achieving the goal of the Islamic agenda is as, many times, as subtly effective clever for the cause of Islamic power in nations of the West.
Furthermore, this Islamic method gradual infiltration in some ways is very similar to the instruction printed in the book entitled THE ART OF WAR by Sun Tzu. Which reads, “At first, then, exhibit the coyness of a maiden, until the enemy gives you an opening; afterwards emulate the rapidity of a running hare, and it will be too late for the enemy to opposes you”
One concept that many Americans just don’t understand that term used, which is “political Islam.” That term is nonsensical and redundant as well as unknown in the Islamic world.
Therefore, it needs to be made clear as to why that Western term is nonsensical and redundant. As explained by two statements.
First, as for that term being nonsensical one devout Muslim who, truly, proclaimed “Islam is Islam.”
Second. as for that term being redundant, has been well explained by none other Ayatollah Khomeini who declared” All Islam is politics.” [1]

A Jew Hating Socialist who wants to tax the rich and give away lots of free stuff to voters to win an election and become mayor of New York City.
What could possibly go wrong?
Most New Yorkers don’t vote. But those who do matter. Those who do will vote for Mamdani to be mayor. They are the true believers.
The five boroughs of New York City are Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, and Staten Island. Three of the five should attempt to secede, Queens, The Bronx, and Staten Island. Much too conservative to be imprisoned by Manhattan and Brooklyn.
This way should “Who’s your Mamdaddy” wouldn’t have a chance to destroy NYC.
I live in Queens on a block with a non tax paying saudi funded mosque steaming 24/7 to pray or plan watching hidden violent weak men in dresses in various states of adulation and self-righteousness interfering with the lives of the local residents. All are illegal aliens. All are crooks and criminals. I hear the hatred and conditioning from the speakers. The democrats are a very fearful and weak as individuals and will coppituate to any radical other. Hanging “Black lives matters” signs up just so they’re windows aren’t broken. They will remove all rights to accommodate any invader in training into your back yard. I only see cowards and ignorance. I also see much, much more violence coming in the future. I’m applying for a few gun licenses which is also impossible in this golden toilet called New York Sity. This is the final round before it turn into a semi abandoned Baghdady Detroit. They are coming and they will revert America and the liberals, socialists, communists, gay, trans will all be killed by these igorant yet street cunning muslims. Submit or die. It’s the slow boil. I’m here I see it I hear it, It’s happening in front of me any other option doesn’t count.
It doesn’t matter if only 5% of New Yorkers voted for Mandami, the city will fall in line and elect him just because he has a D in front of his name. Apparently suicide is an attractive option for NY democrats.
>>In the 1991 Louisiana governor’s race between corrupt politicians Edwin Edwards and Neo-Nazi leader David Duke, bumper stickers read, “Vote for the crook, it’s important.”
Edwards was so lucky in that election. As soon as it was him and Duke in a runoff, he said the word “Nazi”, and just about everyone rallied to his side, just to prevent Duke from becoming governor.
I could not stand Edwards, but there was absolutely no way I was going to vote for Duke.
I have to wonder how many liberal Jews voted for their own demise…
The detriotiification of New York is far advanced. The voters that might elect a sane mayor are already mostly gone . The remainder are rapidly disappearing. Detroit was the richest city in America in 1962 when the last republican mayor left office. Since then it’s seen nothing but a parade of leftist wing nuts.
Government isn’t controlled by majorities it is controlled by committed minorities. If people aren’t even motivated to come out to vote they won’t have any say no matter how numerous they are
So New Yorkers who used to have the reputation of being America’s brashest, loudest, in-your=-face rudest are now a bunch of passive zombies glued to their phones or TV sets. They can’t be bothered to lift a finger to save themselves. The committed active ones are all Marxist or Muslim crazies.
Can everyone stop wondering why ordinary Germans were so easily herded by the Nazis or Russians by the Bolshies? A small extremist minority can wreak havoc with a passive dumbed down majority. Dem cities have reached that watershed moment. – Chicago, San Francisco and more to come.
Here are some more stats: Apparently 62% of college educated idiots voted for the the commie/Sharia combo platter while the same percentage of non-college educated supported anyone but Mandami.
That man Zohran Mamdani who is the soon to be the next mayor New York City is obviously part in the insidiousness subversive movement which is known as the “Red /Green Alliance.”
Mamdani with and being part of that Marxist/Islamic alliance upon entering of office of Mayor is a recipe for a future disaster for NYC.
The deep irony of Mamdani’s back story is there’s no narrative why his parents chose to not only come to United States but to live in America’s most ethnically diverse city. Here’s the thing, you don’t come from Africa to live in United States if you personally think it’s a disgusting, degenerate country that’s controlled by capitalist pigs. Seriously, one need not travel beyond the continent of Africa in order find likeminded people that already are living in heavily government controlled economies.
The irony is if the motivations of Mamdani’s parents to come to the U.S. were for freedom, opportunity and giving their son a chance at a better life; it was all in vain! It’s a cosmic joke that Zohran grew up with both political freedom and the ability of economic choice. Yet despite Zohran’s American upbringing, his vision is to reduce citizens’ political freedoms and economic choices. Zohran knows next to nothing regarding socialism, which means the government controls the means of production. It also means a command economy, which eliminates the role of market demand via the choices of the consumer. This means rationing because the government is the sole provider of all goods and services. In order to achieve an equitable distribution of products and services, rationing must be used so as to allow equal amounts of food and government services be given to each citizen.
It’s amazing how the few Democrats that voted for Zohran have no clue to the workings of socialism. If public transportation is free, it also means that all citizens would need to get electronic rationing service cards. If there’s government run food stores, regardless of your needs and money, you’ll only be able to purchase the same limited quantities of food as everyone else! Have these morons ever figured out why in socialist countries, citizens line up in queues outside of government run food stores and why there’s so little availability of inventory? It’s sad how Zohran and his supporters wish to support a socialistic economic outcome in the land of plenty. That’s the biggest irony in America, people grow in a market economy and think that they can somehow produce a better outcome via socialism. There’s no historic record of any socialistic nation outperforming market based economies. Yet these fools cling onto their belief system like hardcore alternative energy nutcases believe in perpetual motion machines to create abundant energy.
Excellent article but why is everyone so fast to ignore and downplay Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa who has a real shot to become the next Mayor of Nueva York City? I am shocked that Daniel doesn’t even mention him.
Curtis has two lines on the ballot- REP and a Protect Animals line which will no doubt resonate with many thousands of New Yorkers who love their cats and dogs. Never doubt how strongly people feel about animal abuse, such that they will vote for Curtis for no other reason than the work he’s done to rescue and protect these most vulnerable creatures.
If the piece of human filth, Commie DemonRat Mamdani can get 5% of New Yorkers, I guarantee that Curtis will get at least double that on his Animal Protection ballot line.
Then he also has the advantage of being the only REP candidate as well.
GO CURTIS!
One of the worst mayors in New Orleans storied corrupt history was elected by the 16% of registered voters. She spends most of her time traveling the world on the municipal dime while the city is falling apart,
