Speaker Corey Johnson, the worst City Council Speaker in New York City’s history, has advanced another stupid and terrible idea.
Relates to prohibitions on fur products; prohibits the manufacture, sale, display for sale, trade, giving, donating, or otherwise distributing of a fur product by any means in the state beginning January 1, 2021.
The fur industry is one of the few remnants of New York’s rag trade. But who needs jobs. After Amazon, the Dems would like to get rid of the rest of them, from the restaurant industry to the clothing industry.
Maybe everyone left in the city can work for the government or doing CATS in its 300th year.
I’m not sure how New York City wants to legally prevent people from giving other people fur products. But New York City’s current Dem lefty leadership is legally illiterate and believes that it can do anything as long as it addresses a “popular” protest of paid activists first.
Considering the quality of the judges, assorted legal officials, all of whom are part of a Dem machine run by radical activists, it doesn’t matter. Stopping them would require taking the appeals high enough to reach the Supreme Court. Below that, it’s red turtles all the way down.
Corey Johnson has endorsed a ban on fur sales because, “As an animal lover, I truly think it is cruel to kill an animal for the sole purpose of people wearing a fur coat. There is really no need for this. In a progressive city like ours, we need to take steps to protect animals.”
So there will be a ban on Nike leather sneakers? On Halal food carts?
Obviously not. So much for the animals.
This is what happens when politics is driven not be any kind of consistency, but with pandering to special interest groups on the subjects of least controversy. Banning fur is fairly safe because it’s unpopular and controversial. Compared to leather.
That said, I strongly suspect that no one’s going to be enforcing this in the Bronx.
