Shocking, I know from the paper behind the historical revisionism of the 1619 Project.

The latest clickbait the New York Times is peddling on social media is titled, “Trump’s Attempts to Overturn the Election Are Unparalleled in U.S. History”. It’s by David Sanger, a “national security correspondent” and Harvard grad.

The headline reminds me of the famous Princess Bride quote, “You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.”

Sanger goes to the 1876 election. The 1800 election would be more useful, as someone at Governing, who actually knows some history, reminds us.

In his letter to Jay on May 7, 1800, Hamilton urged the governor to call a special session of the outgoing, lame-duck, Federalist-dominated New York Legislature to change the method of choosing New York’s electors so that the just-elected Republican (Jeffersonian) Legislature would not be able to select them in the fall of the year. 

Governing waxes outraged about it and takes shots at President Trump, but the upshot is, it’s entirely ‘precedented’. The precedent goes back to the nation’s third presidential election and comes from that guy whom urban lefties love going to see a musical about.

Meanwhile the paper of record has reminded everyone, once again, that it’s in the business of shoveling clickbait for that same demographic without knowing anything it’s talking about.
