Of all the fact-checkers out there, no one cares about Newsguard.
Steven Brill is raising $6 million to launch News Guard. This new service will rate news sites on their trustworthiness from green to red. Forget politically unbiased algorithms. The ratings will be conducted by “qualified, accountable human beings” from teams of “40 to 60 journalists.” Once upon a time, journalism meant original writing. Now it means deciding which original writing to censor.
Newsguard ended up being funded in part by the leftist James L. Knight Foundation and now they have breaking news about… themselves.
At a British site.
Fox News‘ credibility score has been downgraded to “red” by media watchdog Newsguard, meaning it “fails to adhere to several basic journalistic standards”.
Fox has had an overall passing score since the ratings agency launched in 2018. (Disclosure: the author of this story, Bron Maher, was formerly a Newsguard employee.)
The only thing that could make this story more perfect is the fact that it’s being written by a former Newsguard employee.
The rest consists of pathetic efforts to amplify the smear with activist tweets.
HOLY S____: @NewsGuardRating just downgraded @FoxNews ‘ official rating from Green — Trustworthy to Red — proceed with caution. THIS IS HUGE.
The only thing nearly as huge as this is the time that Michael Moore announced he didn’t like FOX News, Republicans or carbon-based lifeforms.
Now we can all go back to ignoring Newsguard for another 6 years.
