Once upon a time, people on the left were smart and debate worthy. Today what’s left is a bunch of screaming idiots who toss out hysterical talking points in defense of their double standard.
Case in point, the right of NFL players to protest the national anthem in support of the racist hate group known as Black Lives Matter.
Protesting the anthem, screaming “America Sucks!” or wearing police pig socks, as failed football player Colin Kaepernick did. As were Roseanne and James Gunn’s tweets.
Freedom of speech means that the government can’t prosecute you for what you say. It doesn’t mean that your employer can’t. Especially if you’re representing a multi-billion dollar industry. And your statements may negatively impact its sales. As the racist NFL players conclusively did. The NFL only went to a pro-anthem policy because viewership and finances were taking a beating.
Now one can argue that free speech protections should extend into the workplace. Or at least that no one should be fired by what they say when they’re not on the job. But that’s not the case with the NFL players who are engaging in offensive behavior on the job.
But what you can’t do is insist that NFL players have a right to be racist and anti-American, but that Roseanne deserved to be fired. Except that’s exactly what the left keeps insisting.
“Oh, Dear Owners. You stood at the precipice of history tasked with deciding whether to choose the principles of the US Constitution over profits of commerce, patriotism over pandering, morality over mob mentality, promoting social justice over pushing beers. Sadly, you blinked,” Kareem Abdul-Jabbar moans.
Here’s a question.
How long would Kareem choose to retain an employee whose public expression of offensively racist views were costing him millions of dollars?
