The Democrat talking point for Joe Biden’s pardon of Hunter Biden is that it’s understandable: an ‘act of love’ from a father to his son. And some Republicans have even picked up that talking point and carried it along.
Who among us wouldn’t do likewise, they ask.
Set aside for a moment that a father using his troubled son as a front man for a foreign influence operation is no act of love, and that by pardoning Hunter, Joe Biden is also covering his own ass.
We should expect more from our leaders, not less.
Yes, it’s human nature to protect your own kin. Leaders are asked to rise above that. It’s an actual expectation we used to have of presidents that they keep their pants on, that they not actively steal, peddle influence or engage in nepotism. And there was even a time within living memory where most Americans expected this.
And then the Kennedy family came along. And the Clintons. And the rest is history.
We’ve been told for generations now that we shouldn’t expect any better than this. We certainly shouldn’t expect leaders who are better than us. Or who are capable of passing the marshmallow test and resisting temptation.
All of that is deeply wrong. It’s how societies fall apart.
We should expect more of our leaders not less. A president abusing his power to protect his son is not ‘understandable’, it’s criminal. The fact that some Americans have lost sight of this is part of the problem.
Presidents are given extraordinary powers which means that they also need to rise to that occasion.
Understandable is fine for Hunter who went from smoking crack to smoking more crack. It’s not fine for his father who, even if he wasn’t a corrupt scumbag, has a responsibility to uphold an office which asks him to think of something more than himself and his family. Presidents are tasked with sending men out to die. They’re surrounded by men willing to die for them. If they can’t even rise to be worthy of that level of sacrifice, they have no business holding office.

Joe and Hunter had breakfast that day at a restaurant in Nantucket called “The Brotherhood of Thieves” 🙂

LOL! Thanks AA.

It was predictable. Is anyone surprised? Now these two reprobates get to fade into ash heap of history.
The only question left is who gets all of the Chinese money.
One of these days we will read about Hunter being found somewhere in Mexico with a needle sticking out of his arm.

I do believe CYA was on his mind as well as poor Hunter, as you said Daniel.
I saw this AM someone on Fox News suggested that next might come a full Biden family pardon. Maybe as a Christmas present?

I am so glad you ended with presidential power to send our young men out to die. That illustrates the awful duty of the president, our American noblesse oblige in political form. If I can send your son to die, then my son has the same obligation.
Kynarion Hellenis says
The families of our politicians in power should understand that more is expected of them, and that they have heightened scrutiny BECAUSE of their privilege and power conferred on them. When they serve themselves, rather than the people who put them there, is it not treason?
Dave Hay says
I guess Hunter can now be called and x examined about Joe’s corruption. He must testify without hiding behind pleading the 5th. There is no way for him to use that as there are no legal consequences to suffer from his admitting corruption and he can’t incriminate himself. .

The myth of an independent Justice Department
By Jack Hellner
The Justice Department, under Garland, has clearly done what the boss ordered.
Never cared that Hillary and Biden enriched themselves with kickbacks and committed other crimes. Again, they were above the law.
Never cared that FBI officials, Blinken, and 51 former intelligence officials worked in unison to block the public from seeing the clear corruption of the Biden family as they interfered in the 2020 election.

If Trump had done this the M.S. Media Vulture and Sharks would have Feeding Freinzie but since its Biden we hear the Crickets

Old Joe has taken the moral low road since he entered “public service”. Why should now be any different?

Virtually every elected Republican: “This is great, now we get on with what really matters to the American people, like sending more money to Ukraine.”

I was always certain the Joe would pardon Hunter on his way out the door. What I find so appalling about Joe is that he repeatedly proclaimed he would not pardon Hunter, that no one is above the law, etc. all to the accolades of the “news media” and other Democrats about how brave and principled he is. This all before the election. Now, after the election, he reveals, if anyone hadn’t already noticed, what an odious, dishonest, unprincipled, skunk he is.

The apple didn’t fall far from the tree in that family………………we knew he was scum when his daughter ADMITTED that old Joe from Scranton SHOWERED WITH HIS OWN DAUGHTER…………how freaking messed up is that????

Treason can not be pardoned. Americans are so accustomed to the treason of its leaders few give it second thought.
Treason is the norm among American political leadership, corruption is the exception.
notebeat says
Eleven years back is not far enough for absolute protection. There is no pardon big enough to cover all the international crimes, treason and corruption of the Democrat Party and its gangsters. There is not enough sand in all the deserts or cats in all the world to cover up this mess.

They have no business stealing my oxygen, either; but here we are.

of course when donald duck pardons himself that will be totally understandable. His entire family is supping at the governmetn connection troth and we are supposed to be outraged by one act by Biden that is pure Trump. but you are so outraged…. as you kiss the ring of a guy who is going to politicize everycorner of our government.
