How close are we to a Brave New World reality? Our elites are already expecting us to live off some soma and some Netflix.
As coronavirus cases continue to skyrocket nationwide, U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) today wrote to leaders of six major streaming services, requesting that the companies make content available free of charge to encourage Americans to stay home and slow the spread of the coronavirus during the holiday season.
In his letter, addressed to leaders of Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney +, Apple TV+, Hulu, and HBO Max, Senator King underlines Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance that Americans should avoid traditional holiday travel and gatherings to reduce transmission of COVID-19, as well as the increased danger of social isolation during the typically festive and family-driven season.
“At this time, we must find ways to incentivize people to follow guidance from the CDC, their employer, local public health officials, or school leaders. Unfortunately, some Americans are likely to choose to ignore public health advice and carry on their typical holiday traditions instead of remaining safely at home,” Senator King wrote.
Somehow I doubt Senator King thinks Netflix is a substitute for family and whatever social gatherings are important to him. But it’s supposed to be good enough for the proles. Watching Netflix promote pedophilia and teenage suicide is not a substitute for “holiday traditions”, by which King means Christmas.
Netflix, Disney+ HBO Max, Hulu, Prime, and all the other garbage are out there are not a substitute for Christmas with the family or mass.
If people want TV, there are plenty of free options anyway. And if they really want any of those options for a month, they’re not expensive.
King’s letter is a gesture of contempt and a tell of how he sees Americans. “These horrible peasants won’t follow the rules and insist on gathering for Christmas. Throw them some Netflix and Disney+ to bribe them to behave themselves.”
It’s repulsive and disgusting.
