Ideologies have consequences.
The Associated Press Stylebook was amended this week to discourage the use of the word “riot” to describe violent protests, instead expanding the definition of “protest” to include violent demonstrations.
By the fall, many media outlets were describing Black Lives Matter race riots as “uprisings” in line with demands made by lefty activists. Democrats and their media vocally insisted that it was false that BLM riots were violent.
How many times did we hear Democrats repeat the MLK quote, “A riot is the language of the unheard.”
After a year of normalizing riots, of silencing anyone who dared to condemn rioting as a racist, there’s shock at the rioting on Capitol Hill. Rioting is obviously wrong. Much like protesting outside people’s homes, doxxing political opponents on social media, and the whole rest of the ugly social justice playbook.
Except it’s not wrong if one side normalizes it and then acts shocked when that creates a new normal.
After a year of destroying the statues of the country’s founders, vandalizing war memorials, throwing firecrackers and shining lasers in the eyes of federal agents, is anyone outside D.C. really shocked when this really becomes the new normal? If you don’t want riots, the answer is don’t normalize riots.
When Black Lives Matter rioters tried to set a church on fire and besieged the White House, Democrats and the media spent months screaming that President Trump and AG Barr were fascists for trying to deploy troops to stop the assault.
Now the same people are equally shocked that the National Guard isn’t shutting things down.
During the Kavanaugh hearings, lefty activists had no problem getting inside the Capitol, pounding on the doors, and intimidating and harassing legislators. Had there been anyone pointing guns at them, we’d never have heard the end of it.
Again, double standards are not sustainable. They’re ideologically sustainable, but that has little to do with the real world.
If you don’t want riots, stop normalizing riots. If you normalize riots, then you support riots.
