It’s a take alright. 

And Obama’s Breakfast Club appearance is highly reminiscent of his fundraising lines about Americans in the Rust Belt clinging to their guns and religion. 

After President Trump expanded his share of the Latino vote, identity politics lefties are figuring out how to reconcile this with their identity politics by dividing up Latinos into bad and good categories. The previous media appearance had been to claim that “White Hispanics” hate black people. Which is rather odd since many of those same voters had come out for Obama and Biden is as black as Obama’s mother. But Obama hates Christianity even more than he hates white people, and so…

“There’s a lot of evangelical Hispanics who, the fact that Trump says racist things about Mexicans, or puts undocumented workers in cages, they think that’s less important than the fact that he supports their views on gay marriage or abortion,” Obama ranted.

Okay.

Republicans are doing better with evangelical Hispanics who are part of the base, but there’s no real reason to think that the notable 2020 wins with Latinos in Florida and Texas were an evangelical phenomenon. The core issues there seemed to be riots, socialism, and the lockdowns.

President Trump was the most pro-gay GOP presidential nominee in ages and Biden, compared to Obama, was less vocal about it. Ditto on abortion.

Evangelicals and religious people are on the defensive in the Obama and the post-Obama era and Republicans are becoming less religious. Not as drastically as Democrats, but it’s very much underway and a lot of people in the conservative movement are struggling over what to do with it.

Meanwhile Obama is trotting out his bigoted lines about the white working class revamped now for Latinos.
