Last month, Rep. Cori Bush’s car got shot up.
I’m touched by everyone who has reached out. Thankfully no one was harmed, Bush said Thursday in a statement on Twitter, linking to a local news report on the incident. But any act of gun violence shakes your soul.
Bush added, That’s why our movement is working to invest in our communities, eradicate the root causes of gun violence, and keep everyone safe.
Those are typical police defunding pro-crime euphemisms so it should surprise no one that the Squad member is sticking to it.
Rep. Cori Bush (D-Mo.) says she’s not going to stop using the slogan defund the police ahead of this fall’s midterms — even though some of her colleagues have made that request.
Why should she?
Squad members have a lot of cultural influence, but limited legislative impact. The Dems are going to take a beating anyway, but that won’t affect Bush, Omar, Tlaib, AOC, etc… and if some centrist Democrats get knocked out because of the police defunding slogan, so much the better. Radicals are not impressed by the logic of moderating their tone. What they want to do is break the system and then take it over.
