Ladies and gentlemen, our allies.
After Pakistan was caught harboring Osama bin Laden, you might have thought that we would be done pretending that the nuclear Islamic terrorist state has any interests in common with us… except for our money.
And of course you would be wrong.
While Obama pumped a fortune in foreign aid into Pakistan, it never really stopped. Enjoy this summary from the US Embassy in Pakistan.
Since 2009, the U.S. government has committed over $5 billion in civilian assistance to Pakistan and over $1 billion in emergency humanitarian response. During Pakistan’s 2019-2020 fiscal year, the United States was once again the top donor country to Pakistan of on-budget, grant-based assistance. U.S. assistance to Pakistan is always in the form of grants, which does not add to Pakistan’s debt burden or balance of payments challenges.
According to USAID, during Obama’s last year alone we plowed over $1 billion into Pakistan. In 2019, it was $684 million.
Regionally, Pakistan is number 2 for foreign aid after Afghanistan.
And its Islamist government, which is the strongest backer of the Taliban, would like to remind us of how much it hates us.
A day after the Taliban seized power in Kabul and President Ashraf Ghani fled the war-torn country, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan said Afghans have “broken the chains of slavery in the country.”
It’ll be exciting to find out how much money we’re giving Pakistan in 2022.
