Does Nancy really want to test how deep China’s pockets are?

But apparently, Pelosi was unhappy to be part of the Mean Girls caucus.

‘Pelosi was the only Democrat in the chamber — the only Democrat alive — who had already served as Speaker, who had shown she could do the legislative arithmetic and twist the necessary arms to get things done. And yet [her fellow Democrats] were making her grovel. ‘At this point in my life, I don’t need this,’ she vented. 

Pelosi, who has said she won’t seek the speakership for the 2023 congressional term, reportedly said: ‘You couldn’t pay me a billion dollars to run for Speaker again.’  

Considering the likely status of her party at that point, that’s not surprising.

She told another House Democrat that Pramila Jayapal and Ocasio-Cortez were vying to be the ‘queen bee’ of the left, but that their reward might be serving in the House minority after the next election,’ according to the book. 

That’s not a problem for them.

AOC doesn’t give a damn about her district. Her base of support there are white wealthy leftist hipsters. They’re as uninvested in the district as she is. 

House Speakers could use the pressure of pork or fundraising to bring members into line, but AOC and the Squad have independent funding sources and they don’t care about doing anything for anyone except pursuing the radical leftist causes that the donors outside their districts are funding.

So there’s little leverage. 

Pelosi hasn’t figured out how to handle that which is a great argument for why she’s incapable of handling the job.
