Sadly, New Yorkers or Russian and Chinese oligarchs buying expensive condos in what used to be a working-class neighborhood populated by the Jewish and Italian immigrants whom Sanger hated so much, will not have the cachet of living in Margaret Sanger Square.
Like so many other heroes of the Left, Sanger was canceled after conservatives spent two generations reminding everyone that Sanger was a racist eugenicist who addressed the Klan. By then, Sanger was an obscure figure to anyone who wasn’t a professional feminist, so it was easy enough to toss her overboard. And having tossed Sanger overboard, Planned Parenthood is free to go on killing babies.
Now Planned Parenthood took a break from the baby parts stock exchange to announce that Margaret Sanger Square had been aborted.
In a vote of solidarity with Planned Parenthood of Greater New York (PPGNY) and its communities, today the New York City Council approved the removal of Margaret Sanger Square from outside PPGNY’s Manhattan health center at Bleecker and Mott Streets. The un-naming of Margaret Sanger Square demonstrates PPGNY’s commitment to reckon with the totality of its founder’s legacy and systemic racism and ableism, which negatively impacts the well-being of Planned Parenthood patients and staff.
Unnaming is nice. I like it. Orwell would love it.
Mainly though they did it because conservatives kept reminding them that they’re an organization founded by a woman who wanted to kill Italian, black and Jewish babies, and the disabled.
Statement from Merle McGee, Chief Equity and Engagement Officer, Planned Parenthood of Greater New York:
“For years we have witnessed Planned Parenthood opponents use Margaret Sanger Square as a symbol of hate to shame our patients, especially women of color, and stigmatize reproductive health care. As a trusted health care provider, PPGNY is obligated to dismantle barriers and create pathways to care and services for all of our communities with dignity.”
“We are not canceling Margaret Sanger, we are being accountable for the totality of her legacy so we can repair, heal and build a more inclusive PPGNY.”
We’re not canceling Maggie, we just wanted conservatives to stop telling black women they’re killing babies at an organization created by a woman who addressed the KKK.
It was a good day for Planned Parenthood which in one day aborted 947 babies and Margaret Sanger Square.
