Imagine this.
An ambassador with GOP ties is going around telling British officials to ignore Obama because he’s going to be gone soon.
Obama would have dumped him. And would have been in the right.
The media would, obviously, have backed him up.
That’s what the recording the media is touting shows Trump believed. It’s not an indictment, it’s a perfect defense for something that doesn’t need defending. Ambassadors are appointed by the White House. They serve at the pleasure of POTUS. And even if that weren’t the case, a US official, diplomatic or military, who is undermining POTUS to foreign officials, is undermining the country.
On the recording, a voice that appears to be Parnas’ can be heard saying, “The biggest problem there, I think where we need to start is we got to get rid of the ambassador.” He later can be heard telling Trump: “She’s basically walking around telling everybody, ‘Wait, he’s gonna get impeached. Just wait.’”
Trump responds: “Get rid of her! Get her out tomorrow. I don’t care. Get her out tomorrow. Take her out. OK? Do it.”
Does the media really believe this is an indictment?
Obama dumped General McChrystal because of unflattering comments that appeared in a Rolling Stone profile. McChrystal was at the time the point man on the War on Terror in Afghanistan.
His canning was arguably a petty act, but the media had no problems with it. Zero. It cheered it on.
Here’s CNN. “Obama ‘angry’ after reading McChrystal’s remarks”. No outrage. No scandal. Complete support for Obama’s actions.
If Obama can force out the guy in charge of the war effort because he didn’t like a Rolling Stone article, why can’t Trump fire an ambassador for much more overtly undermining him?
