And when it’s over, the media may regret the crisis that it’s whipped up.
An emergency declaration is a golden opportunity to take major steps while cutting red tape and making decisive moves. Obviously the practical announcements are significant, rolling out test kits and making sure that people have the information that they need.
And the economic stimulus is a vital component of protecting the economy. Beyond Wall Street, a lot of small businesses are barely functioning and the situation may get worse.
But beyond that, the coronavirus is a crisis of globalism. And the solutions, secure borders, limiting travel, and restoring a national supply chain, are more obvious than ever. And, in an emergency situation, POTUS is more empowered than ever to achieve them.
That’s the central issue.
A crisis cuts both ways.
The Democrats are using the coronavirus to pump up their welfare state. Republicans are largely letting them do it. But the obvious trajectory of a foreign virus brought in by people coming from abroad does not trend toward the arcs of globalism and socialism.
There is no better time to make the case for MAGA. Especially since the economic turmoil has weakened some of that sense of complacency. This is the time to lay out what’s at stake and what can be done about it. If there’s a crisis, use it.
