In this week’s article, I discuss the dirty politics behind the Murphy Brown revival. And the role that Clinton pal and accused sex offender, Les Moonves played in the revival, which is predictably bombing.
Despite the Hillary Clinton appearance.
And while ABC decided to dump Last Man Standing for political reasons, it easily beat Murphy Brown.
After the first week of the television season, Tim Allen has bragging rights over Candice Bergen.
The return of Allen’s sitcom ”Last Man Standing” reached 8.1 million viewers on Fox last Friday night. That was more than the 7.5 million people who tuned into the revival of Bergen’s “Murphy Brown” on CBS the night before.
CBS heavily promoted the return of “Murphy Brown” after two decades, and former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton had a cameo in the first episode.
The numbers are worse than they sound.
CBS’ half hour comedy lineup has been pitched heavily to millennials. But the Murphy Brown millennial demo numbers are awful.
Airing at 9:30 p.m., “Murphy Brown” averaged a 1.1 rating in adults 18-49 and 7.4 million viewers. By comparison, the revival of “Roseanne” on ABC stunned Hollywood with a 5.2 rating and 18.4 million viewers earlier this year
The 1.1 rating is what matters. And it’s very bad. Meanwhile ABC killed Roseanne. It killed Last Man Standing.
So much for that.
