Rep. Justin Amash, a former Republican who backed Trump’s impeachment, claims that he’s becoming an independent because things are just too partisan.

That and after calling for Trump’s impeachment, even the Republican voters who turned a blind eye to his tantrums for years, are dumping him.

So, like every other Never Trumper, Rep. Amash has a Washington Post editorial about the evils of the GOP. “Government officials, under assertions of expediency and party unity, to ignore the most basic tenets of our constitutional order: separation of powers, federalism and the rule of law,” he claims.

Federalism. Funny Amash should mention that. 

His lodestone hasn’t been federalism, but an obsessive Jihad against President Trump. 

Take this latest example of Amash aligning with Democrats efforts to harass Trump.

GOP Rep. Justin Amash (Mich.) broke with House Republicans on Wednesday by voting to authorize a subpoena for Kellyanne Conway, saying lawmakers should hear from the White House counselor about her response to allegations that she repeatedly violated the Hatch Act.

The House Oversight and Reform Committee voted 25-16 to compel Conway’s testimony after she did not appear voluntarily at a hearing focused on her repeated alleged violations of the law, which bars federal officials from using their position to influence elections.

Amash was the only Republican to join Democrats in voting to approve the subpoena. The Michigan Republican, a vocal critic of President Trump, had drawn the ire of the White House last month after calling for the president’s impeachment.

Respecting the separation of powers would mean not authorizing the harassment of presidential advisers over an unenforceable law. 

But Rep. Amash doesn’t actually care about the rule of law, separation of powers or federalism. He’s expediently citing them to justify his support for harassing President Trump in every possible way because he hates him for reasons having nothing to do with the law or George Washington.

Those reasons are apparent.

Reason has its own list of times Amash went after Trump. The first item on the list is the Muslim travel ban.

Amash is the son of Syrian and “Palestinian” refugees. Without the travel ban, I suspect Amash would still be a member in good standing of the GOP.
