The California Senate primary is proving challenging for Rep. Barbara Lee. The race already has the establishment Democrat candidate, Rep. Adam Schiff, and the obnoxious leftist candidate, Rep. Katie Porter, and Rep. Lee has been working overtime to get attention. The Castro pal tried to play the victim by getting kicked out of a congressional hearing on Cuba and then she got desperate and proposed a $50 minimum wage.
As John Perrazo at Discover the Networks reports in the profile of Rep. Barbara Lee, when asked to provide “a specific number [dollar amount] for what you’d like to see the federal minimum wage at,” Lee replied that an acceptable minimum wage would be “$50 an hour.”
How are small businesses supposed to afford that? The Communist Senate candidate had an answer.
“First let me say, I owned and ran a small business for 11 years. I created hundreds of jobs. Benefits, retirement benefits, also health care benefits. I know what worker productivity means, and that means that you have to make sure that your employees are taken care of and have a living wage,” she claimed.
What sort of “small business” would a leftist big government type create?
According to her website, she founded a mental health services organization called the Community Health Alliance for Neighborhood Growth and Education.
CHANGE, Inc apparently “provided mental health services to the East Bay’s most vulnerable individuals.”
So I’m going to guess that the “East Bay’s most vulnerable individuals” were not the ones footing the bill, the government was. And it’s easy to pay a $50 per hour minimum wage when the taxpayers are the ones paying for it.
.Consider how much California is currently paying for homeless services.
The first apartments cost an average of $479,000 a unit. Some went as high as $650,000 a unit. But that wasn’t good enough. Two years later, the cost of an average unit hit $531,000, with some apartments going up to $746,000.
Unable to build apartments for less than the cost of a mansion, Los Angeles launched a pilot program to build 8×8 aluminum sheds for the homeless for only $130,000 each. The average cost of a home in LA is $500 per square foot. The aluminum sheds with 64 square feet of space managed to completely blow that away.
The homeless had been setting up their own tent encampments for free. So the city launched a pilot program to have the government set up tents for the homeless for only $2,600 per tent.
That’s $2,600 a month.
A $ 50-an-hour minimum wage is easy. Until the taxpayer funding runs out.

Big question: what did she pay herself, and where did the revenue come from?
What did her business pay in wages and benefits?
Nor does she; she’s a leftist lifer government parasite.

I was first going to make a comment on Rep Lee’s apparent IQ, but this really isn’t a personal issue other than for the attention-grabbing headline possibilities for her. It speaks more to the modern socialist Democrat model and their seemingly endless fiscal irresponsibility; the solution to EVERY problem is to throw money at it. Is it any wonder inflation has ravaged the country?
The money-tossing conceptual bug has bitten current Senate Republicans as well, after years of watching colleagues across the isle get a taste. The only difference being that, when they don’t get their way and decide to pout, they divulge a James-Bond-villain-style space weapon to nuke the planet. Subtle.
I purpose a new compensation package for congressional members: Salaries to be based solely upon the amount of money they save the American taxpayer annually. This method would eliminate current congressional riff-raff from both chambers and parties and only true American patriots need apply.
Tents for $2600 / month. Someone’s getting rich off that. Lol

We need to establish a minimum real work (e.g. non-governmental; business) experience level and/or a minimum intelligence level to qualify for office. Requiring just a minimum age isn’t working.

Rep Barbara Lee Tutt, a nut from the land of fruits and nuts. She graduated from UC Berkley with a degree in ignorance. She doesn’t know the difference between $5, $50, or $50 billion. At least she is smarter than the people who voted for her.

Well, obviously, small businesses CAN’T afford that, but that doesn’t prevent the communists among us from proposing such braindead ideas. They make a living spending other peoples’ money, and they’ve elevated doing so to an art form.
This is the kind of thing that happens when we elect the best politicians money can buy. And it’s a dagger in the heart of America’s founding principles.
California gets what they deserve. The voters have kept her in office for decades. I have little sympathy for such a state in disarray and decay. As I left California 5 years ago, my last words were, “So long, suckers!”
Given that we’re on the verge of societal and economic collapse, maybe this whole “precious democracy” thingy wasn’t such a great idea after all…

Let her pay her employees $50 an hour. See how that works out for her. Were that adopted for California you simply won’t have any employers or jobs left there which means no tax dollars for people like her to waste..

Sounds like the only way to have all small businesses be able to afford to pay their employees $50 per hour is by having the federal government own all small businesses. This will mean all the businesses need government subsidies. Increase in taxes shouldn’t cost employees more than $50 per hour.

Nothing wrong with her minimum wage proposal provided anyone elected to a political office is awarded with a maximum wage of $50.01 per hour.
