In a bygone era, YouTube ran on videos of lefty lickspittles like Jon Stewart or John Oliver “destroying” some conservative target. Like every other trend, “destroys” ran into internet ADD and fell out of use. But Ricky Gervais’ monologue at the Golden Globes is a glorious example of destruction.
It’s also a reminder of the trends that helped put Trump in the White House.
Nobody would mistake Ricky Gervais for a conservative, instead his monologue displays contempt for the politically correct scolds who tried to bury him after he defended J.K. Rowling on social media, for an industry based on shameless hypocrisy, and for the elites and their lies.
That’s why he went for the Jeffrey Epstein didn’t kill himself joke.
“Shut up! I know he’s your friend, but I don’t care,” Epstein responded to the booing. “You had to make your own way here on your own plane, didn’t you?!”
Epstein is a litmus test for the poles of the mainstream and the skeptics, the people who believe the media and those who don’t.
But the bit that defined the night was taking a shot at the net dot com streaming kingpins and politically correct celebs.
“You say you’re woke but the companies you work for—Apple, Amazon, Disney—if ISIS started a streaming service, you would call your agent, wouldn’t you? So if you do win an award tonight, don’t use it as a platform to make a political speech, right? You’re in no position to lecture the public about anything. You know nothing about the real world. Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg,”
Despite Gervais’ plea, the celebrity politicized award speeches happened anyway.
