When America was attacked on September 11th, Saturday Night Live responded by having Rudy Giuliani come out, give a little talk and then on with the show. And that was an act of war against our own country which killed thousands of our own people.
Since then Saturday Night Live has moved on from comedy to virtue signaling, occasionally dropping the comedy entirely for musical numbers that assert some sort of cause, whether it’s mourning Hillary’s election defeat or in this case the extremely cringy rendition of the Ukrainian national anthem.
Before all this it’s quite doubtful that anyone involved with the show could have picked a Ukrainian flag out of a lineup, let alone remotely cared about the fate of the country. This opportunistic virtue signaling is as hollow as it is ultimately narcissistic. People thousands of miles away are fighting and dying over causes and issues that really do not affect the American progressives virtue signaling on them. Their interest does not translate into any meaningful form of support or understanding, it’s just the latest in the parade of virtue signaling as a political lifestyle. And if there’s any matter that deserves more serious consideration than a bumper sticker or a t-shirt, it’s a war.
