Will the last man or woman at the CDC please turn out the lights? This is just getting embarrassing.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky defended the agency’s Covid-19 mask guidance policies amid widespread criticism from lawmakers and health officials.
“These issues are complex, the science is evolving, the science is moving, and we are following the science each and every day and our guidance is evolving as the science evolves,” said Walensky during a Wednesday interview on CNBC’s “The News with Shepard Smith.”
The science seems to be evolving every 5 minutes.
Walensky knows better. She’s not following ‘the science’ because a method of testing hypotheses is not something you follow around. The CDC is following assorted special interest groups, from the American Federation of Teachers to whoever lobbied Biden on this last. And she’s following whatever the CDC considers a public safety agenda which is about social engineering, not science.
It’s why public health officials went from telling people not to wear masks, and then telling them to wear masks. And now sliding the other way.
The push to change mask guidance is not based on the science, but the psychology of believing that people will be more likely to get vaccinated if it means they don’t have to wear masks anymore.
Science pursues objective facts while this kind of social engineering tells people whatever the experts think they need to hear so that they’ll behave in ways that fit some sort of larger goals. That means telling people not to wear masks so that they’re available for medical personnel. And, vice versa, it means telling them to wear masks because that kind of behavior might prove helpful down the road in the next crisis.
Psychology is arguably a science. Very arguably. But that’s not the kind of science the experts are supposed to be engaging in.
