Remember when we believed in evidence?
The left occasionally likes to claim that it’s evidence-based. Here’s what Senator Heitkamp’s idea of evidence looked like.
Heidi Heitkamp was ready to vote ‘yes’ on Kavanaugh. Then she watched him with the sound off.
This is what we’re paying Heidi six figures for.
She watched Ford’s testimony. And then she watched Kavanaugh’s. And then she watched Kavanaugh’s again, but this time, with the sound off.
“It’s something I do,” she said, “We communicate not only with words, but with our body language and demeanor.”
“I saw somebody who was very angry, who was very nervous, and I saw rage that a lot of people said, ‘well of course you’re going to see rage he’s being falsely accused,’ but it is at all times you’re to acquit yourself with a demeanor that’s becoming of the court,” Heitkamp said.
Here’s what Heitkamp and so many others missed. It’s not about watching the testimony and deciding whether Kavanaugh or Ford seemed more convincing based on their delivery. That’s not searching for the truth. It’s a self-indulgent exercise in reality television.
It’s a Rorschach test.
We make decisions based on evidence and proof. We go with facts, not personalities.
A Senator empowered to help decide who sits on the Supreme Court bragging that she was going with body language is an embarrassment announcing her lack of responsibility and seriousness. And her inability to understand basic rights.
The Senate is meant to be an adult body. Too bad it’s full of men and women who take refuge in their own pettiness instead.
