The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops recently sued the Trump administration, but Catholic Charities migrant problems have a bigger problem than funding freezes… there’s no one inside them.
Migrant shelters that helped nearly a thousand asylum seekers per day at the height of migrant crossings just a few years ago are now nearly empty.
The shelters mostly along the Texas-Mexico border reported a plunge in the number of people in their care since the Trump administration effectively closed the border to asylum seekers in January. Some expect to close by the end of the month.
McAllen officials reported an average of fewer than 12 people arriving at the respite center run by Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley this month and are on track to have fewer than 350 people in February. In January, the respite center received a total of 3,188 people.
Annunciation House, an El Paso-based migrant shelter network, has a total of about 40 people at the shelters, according to Ruben Garcia, director of the organization.
Because of the small number of people in their shelters, only four of the more than 20 facilities in their network are in operation. Garcia said he will likely close more by the end of the month, keeping only one or two open.
Another El Paso shelter, Casa del Sagrado Corazon, also saw fewer arrivals last year, prompting the closure of their shelter in September, according to Michael Debruhl, the shelter director.
A shelter in San Antonio, the Migrant Resource Center, stopped accepting new migrants last week due to low numbers.
Local residents terrorized by migrant shelters are happy to see them go away.
San Antonio’s Migrant Resource center is shutting down. The facility was run by Catholic Charities and has been operating off San Pedro since July 2022 through federal funding.
However, when it first opened, homeowners in the Shearer neighborhood located behind the center, say they had no warning.
“One day we saw a bus pull up and all these people were hanging out and we thought woah what’s going on?,” Homeowner Emiliano Vasquez said.
“A lot of the migrants would hang in front the businesses and the owners didn’t like that,” Vasquez said. “It didn’t look good.”
Catholic Charities leaders said they will continue helping migrants that come through San Antonio. While dozens of migrants remain at the center as of Monday, the majority of them have travel plans squared away.
“Most people are happy for it,” Vasquez said.
Amazing what happens when you actually police the border and send signals that you’re serious.
Last week, the new Border Patrol chief said that apprehensions in one seven-day period were down by 91 percent from the same time a year ago.
Border officials in Arizona said migrants had largely stopped surrendering en masse, with the hopes of claiming asylum or being released into the country. Instead, they said, a majority of those crossing illegally now try to avoid detection by threading through canyons and up treacherous mountain paths.
Make illegal migration illegal again.

At my church leaders from the ELCA and Lutheran Social Services indirectly hint about the lack of funding now for their DEI-ing woke programs and they have started hitting up the congregation for more $$$s. I don’t know how that’s going over and I don’t ask.
My guess is not very well.

That’s an excellent point. I almost forgot about that. Sticking those illegal immigrants in hotels and such was a big subsidy for hotel owners.
It’s going to be a big subsidy for remodeling contractors, too. It’s a little known fact that wetters trash whatever rentals they use. I saw photos of the interiors of those hotel rooms and they looked like dumpsters behind a bowery bar.
Yeah, I would avoid staying in a hotel that had hosted illegal immigrants. Might catch bed bugs or other vermin, etc.
Bed bugs are a problem among the homeless here in San Jose. I’ve never lived in a place where they were around before, not even Indonesia, and they supposedly have them in the National Geographic type villages in the jungles there. I actually knew a guy who had them here and had to go to a hospital……and he lived in the same house as me! Thank God I’ve lived alone for the last five years. I guess he only had a few and the nurses got them but I used to give him rides in my car. Shit!
I’ve read about those things online and they’re nasty. They live behind baseboards and in boxes and luggage under beds and dark places like that during the day but they crawl up bed legs at night and bite people. Apparently in really nasty places they live right in the mattresses! They walk in straight lines on a person’s skin and bite as they go, leaving a row of red dots. Yuck. You can see photos online.
My mother and her husband at the time slept in some Paki owned bed and breakfast in England and got munched on by the little monsters. He didn’t rent any more B&Bs after that! It doesn’t pay to be a cheapskate!
From what I understand, you should never rent a B&B, even if it is bug free. I’ve been told they’re always run my annoying old ladies with cats. Old hags, bedbugs and cats? Fuck that shit. I’d sleep in a sleeping bag in a dirty alley first. I could always put a piece of cardboard under the bag. 😛 I’m exaggerating a bit but I did sleep in a tent provided by a campground on Catalina Island once because I din’t want to pay a small fortune for a hotel. There were showers there and everything. They even provided clean blankets. The chick I was with didn’t complain at all, thank God. Tents tend to be pretty small and there would’ve been no escape for me.

You should watch that James Caviezel movie “Cry Freedom” if you haven’t already. It’s a true story about a guy who’s rescued hundreds of kids from sex traffickers. The really handsome Mexican guy who directed it and maybe co-wrote it also directed “Cabrini,” which is also great. If you haven’t seen that one, it’s about an Italian Nun who moves to NYC at the turn of the 20th century with no money to speak of to perform charitable acts. Also a true story. I’ve seen Caviezal, the Director and the real guy who rescued the kids several times on Newsmax specials.
Trafficking children across our Southern border is much more common than most Americans think.
We might fill these “shelters” with the conspirators and orchestrators of The Great Inflation Fraud and Cash Heist. Turn these facilities into a one way trip for the grotesquely rich and spitefully powerful. Label these
institutions as “Sanctuaries of The Damned”.

In looking at the pic of the two soldiers, one of them looks like he has a fat ass.
Perhaps one way to get our rank and file and some officers into shape is to issue uniforms that they can’t fit into. And make them walk around in their undies……camouflaged of course. The officers can wear their medal salad on the t-shirts.
