90% of what passes for research is worthless and a waste of time. That’s because much of it involves ‘social science’ rather than science and even the things that look like science inevitably turn into social science, examining social conditions, prattling on about race and sex, and producing nothing more than an argument for social change rather than useful data.
The Department of Defense is now dropping some of this nonsense.
The Office of the Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (OUSD(R&E)) is scrapping its social science research portfolio as part of a broader effort to ensure fiscal responsibility and prioritize mission-critical activities.
And the outrage didn’t take long to arrive.
Dozens of researchers with grants under the Minerva Research Initiative (MRI)—studying violent extremism, disinformation, and threats from climate change, for example—have had their grants terminated in recent days.
Whatever will our national defense complex do without researching ‘climate change’ and ‘disinformation’.
“Many of us cut our teeth as assistant professors with support from the Minerva initiative which allowed us to support students and carry out field work,” says Joshua Busby, a researcher at the University of Texas at Austin and a senior adviser for climate at DOD in 2021–22. “Losing one of the key sources of support for the social sciences is another big blow to academic inquiry and likely undermines our government’s capacity to understand and respond effectively to threats the country faces.”
The “senior adviser for climate” part is the problem right there. The military exists to win wars. Not to be another adjunct of the academic social change garbage paper complex.
They could do some research into how many foreign wars have led to improved conditions for those countries.
They need to get back to s defending t his Nation from Invaders from North and South Borers and East & West Coasts and return all illegal aliens to where they came from and Open Border Democrats can go with them
I’ve said this in the past and I’ll repeat it again here: There is more to fear from an army of sheep led by a lion than an army of lions led by a sheep. Obama and later, Biden, put sheep in charge of the US military. Trump is trying to change that but it’s going to take time.
That change starts with an industrial enema of the pentagon and a culling of the officers ranks and top enlisted ranks. The military is a martial culture and should be manned and led by warriors. who only know one thing: break & destroy sh*t, if it moves kill it, kick ass and keep kicking ass until there’s no more ass to kick and let the politicians clean up the mess.
Clearly the social sciences have been ground zero for the very worst of the social delusions that we have had to endure for the last century. And, agreed, the military needs to stay well away from that. The problem is the people who decide what gets funded as research. The National science foundation is very politically sensitive and will follow the prevailing narrative no matter how silly. The challenge is to change the narrative. I believe FPM and many others are part of that effort. The social sciences adopted a basic premise regarding human nature long ago that is fundamentally wrong. Read “The Blanc Slate” by Steven Pinker. The good news is that real science does prevail in the long run.
Obviously such Social Science research is the easiest type to be hijacked and exploited by the left.
Social sciences has become the weaponry of the “we want to be kind and inclusive” doctrine of the many self-medicating, eastern meditating Om population whose understanding of humanity is zip. Any “science”, social or otherwise, that cannot differentiate male from female has no business whatsoever having anything to do with our military readiness.
Warriors DNA and their subsequent military training are responsible for our being able to defend our nation and people from enemies. One looking across the landscape of the world sees many existing enemies who are barbarians for whom strength and military might are the ONLY things they understand.
Having our military filled with long- haired, pantyhose-wearing males for whom their identity is the mixed, bearded-lipstick abomination is the outcome of these social sciences and is reason enough for the complete dismantling of these “studies” and the military dollars spent.
Our warriors deserve the best possible training, both mental and physical, using their G-d ordained physicality and uniquely given brains and talents to keep all America safe.
Those wishing their studies to continue being paid for by taxpayers are finding out that we want our military to have the edge…and both men and women who sign up must ALL start with fundamental knowledge of if they’re male or female and we don’t need any pricey studies for that just two boxes–male, female and only one will be checked.
For the left, their social studies money grift is OVER; over and out!!
What gets me is outrage at budgets and jobs cut. Anyone who really worked for a living knows that’s part of life in the real work world.. These people however cry like interrupted sucklings ….
Sure, it’s bad to lose a job. But they act like it’s a hate crime if you cut their job or grant. It’s because they virtue signaled that they were saving the world. They knew what we knew – that they were only sucking tax payers dry.
