Hello,
We are writing to inform you that Twitter has received official correspondence regarding your Twitter account, @JamieGlazov.
The correspondence claims that the following content is in violation of Pakistan law: Section 37 of PECA-2016, Section 295 B and Section 295 C of the Pakistan penal code
Letters like this have been in the mail. Virtual for now. But it may only be a matter of time before the virtual turns real.
The translocation of the American marketplace of ideas to the internet, while making multinational megacorps into their custodians, meant that free speech was a figment and Sharia law is as close as social media.
That’s the reality.
My own articles on Mohammed were targeted in Pakistan. For now, services subdivide local law from global implementation, but that’s increasingly under strain. It’s easier just to censor everyone, everywhere, in the end.
Sharia law is not a problem that will stay in Pakistan, as Jamie’s letter reminds us.
