This wouldn’t be the first time George Soros lost a lot of money on a bad long shot candidate. And the old monster has cash to burn.
American businessman George Soros has donated $1 million to Texas gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke’s (D) campaign.
The Texas Ethics Commission confirmed Soros’s donation to O’Rourke’s Beto for Texas political action committee in its filing report published on Tuesday.
Money is pouring into the hipster candidate’s latest vanity campaign.
Democratic gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke raised a staggering $27.6 million from late February through June, outraising Republican incumbent Greg Abbott and setting a new record for campaign fundraising in Texas.
O’Rourke’s campaign announced the haul Friday morning, and Abbott’s followed with the announcement that he raised $24.9 million over the same period. O’Rourke’s $27.6 million is the most a candidate for state office in Texas has ever raised in a reporting period.
Polls have the Democrat within 5 of Abbott. But Texas has ever been the one that got away from the Dems.
On the other hand public anger is massive and while Biden and the Dems will suffer nationally, some statewide and local Republicans are likely to get pounded in races at home. Abbott’s numbers are not good, often for reasons that are not his fault, but to people who are struggling and frustrated, that isn’t going to matter.
Soros is likely to lose his money, but on the other hand there was a longshot named Barry a few years back who really paid off.
