Bobby is far from the only aged former movie star who spends all of his time obsessing over what’s on cable TV, but the Biden campaign’s decision to dispatch him to Trump’s trial was embarrassing for De Niro.
The last time Robert De Niro starred in a hit movie, Trump was president. And I use the term “hit movie” very generously because the movie in question was The Irishman which was one of those Netflix deals that released in movie theaters just to qualify for Oscar season where it made $8 million.
Here, this chart from The Numbers nicely sums up De Niro’s career box office trajectory.
De Niro lately shows up in random TV miniseries and plays people’s eccentric grandpas in indies like About My Father and The War With Grandpa.
Not exactly movie star stuff.
To be fair to De Niro, he’s on the older side. Other actors like Jack Nicholson and Gene Hackman went out on top and are remembered fondly. There’s no chance of that happening because De Niro has showed up in so much garbage for a paycheck, every Fockers movie, Father of the Bride 3 and Dirty Grandpa, that is what a whole generation knows him for. His old pals putting him in movies like Killers of the Flower Moon won’t turn that around. So what was the cachet in bringing him out to the Trump trial?
It was either that or Dirty Grandpa Meets the Fockers Part 4.
De Niro is a perfect proxy for Biden. He’s well past his prime and has destroyed his reputation. And if Biden does a Weekend at Bernie’s, maybe De Niro can impersonate him at the convention.

The spirit inside a movie actor is imprinted on the film and that determines it’s success. Why are Laurel and Hardy movies still a hit with every new generation? Because the mirth and merriment of a Laurel and Hardy set Stan Laurel knew would be imprinted on the film. Dilbert DiNutzo has a miserable spirit of a miserable man who has been blessed in his life unlike the majority of humans who have ever lived yet he is a miserable SOB a phony and a hypocrite and a mook! Meet the Parents
Ronin
Heat
Goodfellas
Midnight Run
DE Niro is toxic. I do not think I could stand to rewatch Heat or ronin because he is in those films. Goodfellas would have made the same money with or without him. Do not know if meet the parents or Midnight run could be made without him or have done as well. Maybe a casting agent could make an argument either way.
Grodin of Midnight Run fame was already obnoxious. So now it would be doubly hard to watch.
The last few years with the Biden Regime have been such a biotch slap that even a buddy move like Midnight run seems such a waste. of time and divorced form reality,
De Niro and others are so toxic they are hurting syndication and any money from reruns.
They make rereading textbooks fun by comparison
Algorithmic Analyst says
Yeah, he ruined Ronin/Goodfellas/Midnight Run for me. They used to be some of my favorite movies. I never liked Heat though 🙂
MJ says
Heat has Al Pacino in it!
Heat is standard movie and it is implausible. Still liked it.
DetroitOtaku says
The heist scene in Heat is still used by the military and police in training sessions to this day.
Jeff Bargholz says
“Ronin” and especially “Midnight Run” were great movies. I feel the same way. De Niro is such an asshole he ruined them. “Midnight Run” was one of the best comedies of all time in my opinion. Not “Easy Money” funny but up there.
Did you see his second performance outside the illegal Trump trial? WTF!? It was full on projection and transference. There’s something seriously wrong with that guy.
DetroitOtaku says
What about The Godfather Part II, Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, or Jackie Brown?

They criticized Clint Eastwood for talking to an empty chair. What Clint was doing was prophetic because we have a lot of empty minds being talked to who seems like they joined the zombie apocalypse.

Looking back, De Niro basically played his idea of a villain. There was nothing unique about him, he just played ultra- violent characters which were a step up fromsay, Clint Eastwood in Dirty Harry. He never appealed to me as he looks ugly and plays ugly parts. I think Heat was the last film I watched, on dvd. Then I read he only dated black women. Now all the other stuff is coming out about him, it seems he is a perfect reflection of the Democratic Party..
Jeff Bargholz says
Hey, what’s wrong with black chicks? 😛
THX 1138 says
They more often look more like Whoopi Goldberg than Pam Grier that’s what. But the real problem is their obnoxious, abrasive, attitude and foul and rude language.
Give me a black woman with the beauty of Claudia Jordan and the lady-like, gentle, dignity of a Chinese girl and I’m hooked.
Jeff Bargholz says
I like their crude language. It’s a different taste in life. And I choose the Pam Griers, so life is good for me. You should see the ones I’m with now.
And I’ve had my fill of Chinese girls.
Algorithmic Analyst says
lol … first comment of the day that made me laugh 🙂
THX 1138 says
Come to think of it both Pam Grier and Claudia Jordan are mixed-race. For me mixed-race is and should be considered another category.
Scott Stuart says
I didn’t enjoy seeing Mr. De Niro in an “F-you” shouting match in the street. This is beneath the dignity of a man with his accomplishments.
Mr. De Niro can have whatever opinion he wants but I am concerned that what he said…is also being repeated on news channels everywhere. People are BELIEVING the propaganda that Trump “wants’ to destroy the city, the country, the world” and that he won’t leave office.
They actually believe this! That is a problem. Because, if you really believed this….you might be out in the street yelling too. I feel sorry for Robert De Niro. He might actually believe this stuff and may NOT be playing another role.
Chaya says
Rumors have it ( and lately these rumors and so called conspiracy theories keep coming true) that he personally fears a Trump admin because he has much to hide. His proclivities, that is. He was an Epstein island guest.
Jeff Bargholz says
“Weekend at Biden’s.” That’s funny. I wish I had thought of it.
internalexile says
Actually, if I remember, Ronin was pretty good, although one never really heard about it.
Steven Kardas says
Just on the face of it why are we to listen to the opinions of De Niro and the like who’s entire career is to pretend they are someone else ? Really, think about that. Jerks like him have been recruited to bash President Trump because he is well known, has a big mouth and uses the F word a lot. He’s a fake tough guy, emphasis on the fake part. He appeals to those of low intelligence who think he is a real person in movies. The left can not rationally discuss their points and agenda because it is unsupportable by facts and reality, so they resort to name calling, expletives, threats, violence etc….. De Niro’s job is to foster hate.
SPURWING PLOVER says
DeNiro is a Zero and he just proved it with his threats of Violence toward Trump and we can simply Boycott his Movies
p38ace says
Am I the only one who remembers that he was in Taxi Driver? That is the only movie where he plays a normal person.
DetroitOtaku says
Midnight Run could count as another one perhaps.

Keanu Reeves seems to be an exception. Everything I’ve read about him seems to point to him being a real gentleman and thoughtful person.
