According to a quote widely attributed to Winston Churchill, “A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.” This is absolutely true when it comes to reporting about Israel, except even more so. We could say that anti-Israel lies become canonized, even becoming part of sacred religious lore, before the truth even gets out of bed.
This will now be the case with the lie that the IDF massacred more than 100 Gazan civilians trying to get desperately needed food supplies.
So, not only do the Israelis cruelly and inhumanly starve these Gazans to death, but they cynically send in limited numbers of food trucks and then massacre the starving masses trying to get food for themselves and their families.
Before sharing what really happened in Gaza this week – and it is quite tragic – and without minimizing for a moment the very real suffering of the people of Gaza, let me share with you an Instagram post commenting on the event shortly after it took place. (I’m not linking to the comment since I have no desire to draw attention to the individual who posted it for quite a few reasons. It was sent to me by a pro-Israel pastor.)
“Israeli tanks and snipers MASSACRED over 100 starving, defenseless Palestinian refugees and injured over 700 more this morning while they were waiting for trucks to deliver food and other humanitarian aid. It is indisputable that this is a war crime atrocity of epic proportions by the genocidal sociopaths who run Israel’s current government and the IDF.
“The most disturbing part is that American Christian Zionists will support it – even CELEBRATE it . . . .” (The post gets even worse after this, repeating some of the more ridiculous antisemitic libels of the day.)
So, Israeli tanks and snipers carried out an intentional massacre of more than 100 starving and defenseless refugees, something that will now be celebrated by American Christian Zionists.
Yes, these “brainwashed” Christians (to use a word found later in this same post), it’s as if their sentiments will be, “Way to go Israel! Slaughter and butcher those defenseless Palestinians! God bless you, Israel! Kill them all in Jesus’ name!”
Sadly, while not everyone will be as unhinged as this individual, the false report has already been canonized. Not only did the Israelis bomb a hospital in Gaza earlier in the war, slaughtering hundreds, but now they have massacred unarmed civilians trying to get food.
As for the hospital bombing, as pointed out by David Harel in Haaretz, which is to Benjamin Netanyahu in Israel what MSNBC is to Donald Trump in America, “it turned out, with a high level of certainty, that the incident occurred due to an accident in the firing of a Palestinian rocket, which landed on the hospital, and that the number of those killed was less than a tenth of what had been reported earlier.”
As for the alleged massacre this week, the New York Sun reports what really took place, noting that “most of the deaths were caused by a stampede.” This occurred when 30 food trucks traveling together “were surrounded by a throng of desperate civilians in northern Gaza trying to confiscate bags of foodstuff before they reach Hamas or criminals that take the aid to sell later.”
Aerial footage released by the IDF indicates that “most of the victims were crushed as the Arab drivers pushed the trucks into the crowd.”
In another incident, also in southern Gaza, when a crowd surrounded an Israeli tank crew as food supplied were entering the Strip, the soldiers “first fired warning shots, which failed to deter the crowd. It later aimed at limbs. Ten people were hurt, according to the IDF, and some of them were likely killed.”
None of this actually matters, though, as this latest lie spread worldwide instantly, drawing “near universal condemnation” (to quote the Sun again).
As explained by Harel, “On the basis of an initial investigation, the IDF said Thursday that most of the casualties – dead and injured – were caused by the crowding and that only a small number of casualties occurred as a result of the soldiers opening fire. It’s hard to cast blame on junior commanders on the ground, who in their perception found themselves in a situation that threatened the soldiers’ lives. A video of the event, filmed from the air, shows masses of people crowding around trucks.”
That being said, “The Israeli version of the events appeared late, some 10 hours after the shooting. It’s doubtful whether the Israeli explanations will make a difference to anyone. The grim scenes from the incident dovetail with a statistic that the Health Ministry in Gaza, which is controlled by Hamas, published on Thursday, according to which about 30,000 Palestinians, among them 12,500 children and teenagers have been killed in the war. Israel is perceived internationally as bearing the chief responsibility for the war’s consequences, even though Hamas initiated the murderous terrorist attack of October 7, and its methods and views do not get much sympathy in the West.”
To repeat, “It’s doubtful whether the Israeli explanations will make a difference to anyone,” and, “Israel is perceived internationally as bearing the chief responsibility for the war’s consequences.”
This means that, all the more, we must continue to combat lies with truth, continue to remind people of the horrors of October 7, continue to expose worldwide antisemitism, continue to point out that the root cause for Gazan suffering is Hamas, and continue to defend Israel’s right to defend itself.
We can also ask why there has not been a universal call for the release of all hostages – surely, even Islamic nations, let alone the rest of the world, should agree on this – in contrast with the incessant calls for a ceasefire.
And we can ask why there is not more world pressure on Egypt to allow Gazan civilians to be housed temporarily in their country, something Egypt has refused to do. This would have alleviated massive suffering for the people as well as enabled Israel to bring down Hamas much more effectively, also minimizing Israeli losses in the process.
But no, it is only Israel that is to blame.
Again, this does not mean that Israel has done everything perfectly in this war or that we should not be grieved over the terrible loss of Palestinian life, even if the figures of the Hamas-run, Gazan Health Ministry are exaggerated and fail to distinguish the killing of terrorists from the deaths of civilians. The losses are still high, the suffering of the Gazan people acute, and the needs growing greater by the day. This is terrible and real news.
But let us distinguish the lies from the truth, however old that exercise becomes. Telling the truth is one weapon that we can never surrender.

Let Jordan supply them via airdrops. Israel should insist that every go through Egypt and nothing whatsoever from Israel
CowboyUp says
My thoughts, as well. This wouldn’t have happened if the IDF didn’t allow the food trucks into Gaza.

Israel is losing the propaganda war sadly.
Small things make a big difference, such as describing Hamas cowards on October 7th as a terrorist attack.
It was the direct equivalent of Russian invasion of Ukraine, Hamas is the Gazan army and they invaded Israel.
But it is too late now to have much effect, however Israel’s communications must improve.
Atikva says
“Israel’s communications must improve” – something I have heard for the past 20 years. But no one ever explained to me how can you improve communications when people have chosen to believe your enemy’s propaganda, no matter how ridiculous or impossible it may be on the one hand; and on the other hand, when people ignore any indeniable rebuttal/proof to the contrary that you may provide, time after time.
There’s no worse deaf than the one who doesn’t want to hear – especially those who know very well what the truth is, but won’t acknowledge it for political reasons.
BLSinSC says
There’s no “easy” solution other than to OPEN THE BORDER and let the “refugees” flow into ARAB Nations! Egypt has spent a LOT of MONEY to keep the Gazans OUT – why? Aren’t they their “brothers”?? Why is it that NO NATION wants the GAZANS?? Wouldn’t it be a shame if some of those rockets, mortars, anti-tank missiles, and hamasses just attacked the Egyptian Border to “OPEN IT UP”??? What would EGYPT DO??? Please note – this is in no way a suggestion of ACTION that the hamasses should take – nooooo, that wouldn’t be nice!!
David Yetter says
And it has been the same since 1948, when Arab nations surrounding the new State of Israel obliged their fellow Arabs who either fled the intolerable situation of living under Jewish rule or were forced out (there were both) to live in refugee camps, refusing to grant them citizenship, while driving out their own Jewish minorities, most of whom went to Israel where they were welcomed as new citizens. Had the Arabs treated displaced Palestinian Arabs the same way that the Jews treated displaced Iraqi, Syrian, Jordanian and Egyptian Jews, there would have been no need for UNRWA and the conflict by now would surely have simmered down.

“30,000 Palestinians, among them 12,500 children and teenagers have been killed in the war.”
The way that I know this is entirely propaganda is that I have seen no massive online videos of the funerals. The media could not resist broadcasting them if they existed. I’ve seen plenty of “fake” funeral footage in the past over much smaller alleged incidents, so I know they are not above doing this. Everyone there has a smart phone and we would be bombarded with the daily recordings of these events.
Alkflaeda says
Yes, and just think of all the images we haven’t seen of women with babies in their arms, being dug out of rubble – there is no way that they would not capitalise on these sorts of photo-ops.
Lightbringer says
Of course if they felt like it they could stage them, as they have long staged “martyrs’ funerals”.
Grace says
I have seen footage of a group of Muslims practicing to be mass shooting “victims”. This was related to Christchurch, which was likely staged. There was fake funeral footage, as well. It wouldn’t surprise me if people from Hollywood helped them to produce it.

Sounds impartial to me. Oh, wait….
I did a search for the full video. After 7 pages of results (350 in total), the only sources that were displayed were: BBC, CNN, NYT, NPR, youtube, Washington ComPOST, Aljazeera, but of course there is no algorithm driving the results… SMH.
I’m afraid Truth was shot in the back of the head, while trying to pull its socks on.

And the IDF only killed a hundred of them? Apparently they’re as bad at premeditated massacres as they are at genocide. I think it’s a mistake for them to allow food trucks in until hamas surrenders.
Lightbringer says
“I think it’s a mistake for them to allow food trucks in until hamas surrenders.”
Yes. Standard siege craft. It’s been successfully employed for millennia and could work now, except for one thing: Israelis really do care about human lives, including the lives of their sworn enemies. Siege is one of the cruelest of tactics even if it is successful. I can’t imagine Israel doing it, even though they have effectively been accused of it for years.

It seems that the events that occurred on October 7th need to be reexamined. After the border wall was broken, it took hours for the IDF to respond.
I have heard from a retired IDF general, and a current commander, that said it should have been minutes.
It seems likely Israel wanted Hamas to inflict as much damage as possible so that Israel could justifiably respond by bombing Palestine.
I am Pro-Life, aka against abortion. This includes unborn babies killed by bombs.

One of the first things that Hamas did was to chemically gas a roomful of IDF communications workers. This also meant that the couple who survived by climbing out of a window, could not then get back to their equipment, because the room was full of gas. My guess is that the IDF expected to get confirmation of the nature and scope of the problem from the communications workers, and that this may have been one of the reasons for a delayed reaction. The other thing is that, yes, you would expect a single breach of a fence to be dealt with quickly and efficiently – but when it is being breached in a number of places at the same time, and the people coming in are raping and torturing, it is to be expected that this would reduce efficiency. It is certainly the case that there was complacency in high places, and that the warnings of people on the ground were not heeded – but I think that it would be premature to read intentionality into this, plain ordinary negligence is more likely.

High ranking people thought that by giving gazans work visas, and letting them stay over in Kibuzzim and treating them with kindness, and giving them food and jobs, would stop them from behaving like animals. They were SADLY WRONG. This is lesson to everyone: when people tell you they want to kill you, BELIEVE THEM!

Israel had at LEAST 4 hours warning…that’s when they dispatched the quick reaction “Tequila Teams”, those were mostly mopped up by Hamas. They could have warned every base by the border, but they did not…it could have saved young some of those soldiers from getting massacred, many in their bunks.
Some fought bravely anyways, most did not come out alive in the 2 bases over run by Hamas and PIJ, etc. They were armed with new tandem and thermobaric charges in the old RPG-7’s and took of action quite a few tanks.. Some were dressed as IDF, others as Israeli Police and set up road blocks, sometimes with Kornet ATGM’s….it was chaos.
I think those losses caused hesitation int he ranks…so much so it took between 4 to 20 hours before entering the towns along the Gaza border all 22 of them, and 2 army bases over run, and one large infiltration into Ofakim….it was a well planned attack with well armed foot soldiers “reporters” and looting mobs.
Only one Little town had an armory, as they had “protexia”, most civilians were un-armed and easy prey hiding in “safe rooms”., It is a huge Shanda / Busha ( Embarrassment ) how easy it was to kill rape and capture Israelis…even the Muslim Bedouin in Rahat and surroundings were not spared..

Don’t be dreaming ridiculous dreams.
If you didn’t know it, high-rank members of the IDF who do not believe in the Chosen People dreamt that Arabs were basically nice people who would become friendly if only Israel would surrender and let them have their ways in the country. They let their guard down. So did the October 7 victims who believed that there would be no more antagonism once the Arab in Gaza were treated nicely.
Alix Brit says
Sorry – but I do not belong to your religion. At least 22 communities were invaded by Hamas including a MUSIC FESTIVAL. Even after such an awful breach, the IDF were able to kill at least half of the Hamas rapists and get valuable information from those that they captured. Please KNOCK IT OFF.
Tzvi says
Alix,
If those Jews in charge took their Torah law seriously every citizen would have had the ability to be armed…instead they acted like the ancient Philistines and disarmed the Jews. Even if Hamas had been crazy enough to try what they did on Oct. 7, Citizens would have had a fighting chance.
Quick response teams were dispatched 4 hours before the attack, but no Alert to the regular Army.bases, Towns, or the silly rave on the sabbath and Holy day of Shemini Atzeret. Even 2 hours heads up would have been helpful…let alone 4..
Military coms were down, but not cell phones…in fact Hamas / PIJ used Israeli Sim cards to communicate.

Excellent expose of the nature of the lies and blood libels hurled against Israel each and every day. Uh, well, since…. well… since time immemorial, I suppose. And certainly ramped up to the max … well, since 1948, at least.
The reason Israel waited so long to explain the story was that we wanted to give an accurate accounting of what really happened. The other side can change its story multiple times or stick to the same blood libel as we often see and believed no matter what evidence is shown to the contrary.
By the way, it is widely assumed that Mark Twain was the “author” of the comment about lies and truth. “A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes.”
I’ve seen variations; “…. 7 times around the earth… lacing up its boots…” and others. The point is well taken in any case.
And, of course, the greatest and most courageous statesman of the 20th Century, Winston Churchill, said many other things of note.

The answer to all the death and destruction was right in front of everyone within days, but certainly it should have become more obvious the longer it went on. Once the war started, and rightfully so, and the IDF was pounding Gaza and when people, the UN, the stupid, started calling for a ceasefire they could have thought of something else that would definitely end the war. Unconditional surrender! Pretty easy. Hamas and Gaza surrender. All the Hamas members and other civilians involved trot off to jail for most of forever, Israel demilitarizes Gaza and we are done. But for so long no one with a voice, beyond myself, and of course I am only talking to friends, voiced this simple idea. It took Fetterman oddly enough to put it out there. But seems even then no one got on board. They are still calling for the victimized to surrender by a ceasefire. I don’t understand.
TRex says
Read Daniel Greenfield’s article posted today about victims. While the sane among us can clearly see Israel as the victim here, the Gazans, and their leftist supporters dismiss that fact. There can only be one victim, Hamas and company, and no matter how heinous their behavior it is all justified. “Victims” throughout the West, coupled with their anti-Semitism, will never cede their status because that would denude them of their reason to live. And we all know misery loves company.
