After fixing the climate by throwing soup at the Mona Lisa, vandalizing Degas’s Little Dancer, and assaulting various classic masterpieces across Europe, more leftists are learning to solve problems by wrecking art.
Now everyone is getting in on the act.
An artist in France said he will destroy paintings by icons Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol and others using acid if WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange dies in prison.
Considering the artistic contributions of Warhol and Picasso, this seems like a win-win scenario.
Andrei Molodkin, an artist in the south of France, is planning to destroy up to $45 million worth of masterpieces that have been donated to him.
Molodkin said he put the paintings in a 29-ton safe that is connected to two barrels. One barrel contains acid powder, while the other holds accelerators. When pumped together into the safe, the reaction will be powerful enough to destroy all of the masterpieces, according to Sky News.
The initiative is backed by Julian Assange’s wife, Stella, and is dubbed “Dead Man’s Switch.”
This seems like a plan that someone came up with by doing drugs while watching James Bond movies. I wouldn’t be surprised if Kim Dotcom came up with this idea while temporarily having his oxygen cut off by choking on a ham sandwich.
How is this supposed to work exactly? The US will stop trying to get custody of Assange to stop a bunch of soup cans from getting destroyed? Or maybe federal prison guards will watch over Assange so he doesn’t get shiived by a mafia accountant for fear that the soup cans will get it.
Molodkin said the safe will be attached to a 24-hour timer that will have to be reset every day. If not, it substances from both barrels will be released and destroy the art. He said the safe in his studio will be sealed Friday and later transported to a museum.
Considering that Molodkin, a Russian conceptual artist of the kind everyone hates, is older than Assange, this seems like it’s more like the art will be destroyed when he dies, not when Assange does, which is exactly what an egomaniacal narcissist who lives off the attention of others would do.
And since he’s a conceptual artist, I’m assuming that there’s no actual art in there, just a bid for attention.

I am not. fan of Picasso. But I was once invited to a semi private viewing of Picasso’s art and went. It turned out to be all erotica. That could have been just not my cup of tea but believe me it was shockingly violent and all aimed toward women. The inner workings of his mind displayed through art amounted to serial killer’s detailed foul vulgar violent fantasies. I didn’t happen to have a can of soup or acid with me.

Picasso was both a consummate artist and a financially shrewd self-promoter ; his porno-pix were appreciated and sold well, as do those of our contemporary, Robert Crumb..
Rough pen-and-ink sketches Picasso briskly drew on the backs of restaurant menus now command prices in high five figures at auction.

“Molodkin, a Russian conceptual artist of the kind everyone hates.” You’re getting sloppier and grumpier.
But bravo for putting together a piece in which you can simultaneously pretend to know anything about climate activism and pretend to know anything about art. Kudos, Daniel!

Brave for another cut and paste snarky comment.

That’s not surprising considering Picasso’s lifestyle and the milieu that he came out of which was deeply rotten and degraded.

Nailed it! It’s a win-win situation for me as well, but it reminds me of the Greek philosopher Epictetus who stated, “Wealth consists not in having great possessions, but having few wants.” He’s also attributed with the concept of it always being easier to destroy rather than create. Both of these ideas, as any, can be weaponized. The left wants…and threatening destruction is their means to that end.
Unfortunately for them, it’s a paper tiger and a less than meaningless threat that leads to less possessions for Andrei.

That does resonate with the traditional learning and character that unfortunately have been left behind by a culture that rejects the importance of virtue.

To these barbarians, civilization and the human race other than themselves are the enemy. That such people now have risen to the top is largely the fault of complicit, cowardly Republican leaders.

Not a huge fan of either Warhol or Picasso but the idea of blowing up artworks is not something to be laughed at. The maniac described above can do what he wants with his stuff, but if he and his like-minded lunatics start going after museums that’s a completely different story.
Daniel Greenfield says
I don’t like vandalism even when I don’t like the things being vandalized.
Should someone be able to buy an artwork and destroy it? That’s been a fraught debate. I think a crypto promoter talked about doing that recently.
I think some cultural treasures belong to society at large and the owners are custodians.

I wonder how Liberals would react if someone vandalized that awful Portrait of Obama in the Ivy by that controversial artists
Daniel Greenfield says
depends on their motives
if they vandalized it to protest global warming, it would be cool
if they vandalized it to protest Obama wrecking America, it would be racist

Depending on the painting and period (“blue,” “rose,” “cubist,” and so on), I don’t mind Picasso — even “Guernica,” which is borderline communist propaganda, has its own kind of unique power and sensitivity. Warhol reaches much more into the overpriced rubbish category — something I faintly remember he himself thought was true, too, since he was just silk screening copies of pre-existing images to highlight how capitalism supposedly makes life boring and soulless. But destroying art is just disgusting, and it’s always because of narcissism. La Gioconde can’t fight back if you throw soup all over her, so you can feel like a hero without risking getting your eyes clawed out. Assange should be proud that he has people as vile and degenerate as himself adoring him.
commonsense says
Sorry Daniel. Picasso was a great artist who, however, was not above marketing junky scribbles bearing his signature for lots of money. But his genius and originality cannot be denied.

If you want to see art that looks like it was done from some planet try out Hieronimus Bosch someone photographed his Mutant Bird On a Subway
