And you thought the NIH was just bad during the pandemic. Post-pandemic, it’s aiming to wreck medical research for generations by spending $241 million to mandate ideological conformity and diversity over science.
In 2020 the National Institutes of Health created the Faculty Institutional Recruitment for Sustainable Transformation program “to enhance and maintain cultures of inclusive excellence in the biomedical research community.” The program will give 12 institutions a total of $241 million over nine years for diversity-focused faculty hiring. Under the terms of the grants, only candidates who demonstrate “a strong commitment to promoting diversity and inclusive excellence” can be hired through the program. To apply, candidates must submit a diversity statement.
Diversity statements play the same role as expecting Chinese research to quote from Mao’s Little Red Book or Soviet scientists to explain how they incorporate Marxism-Leninism into their work. It’s the bastard child of anti-racism and at its core, it mandates ideological conformity, punishes dissent and original thinking, and treats research as just another organizing point for its extremist creed.
The South Carolina and New Mexico rubrics call for punishing candidates who espouse race neutrality, dictating a low score for anyone who states an “intention to ignore the varying backgrounds of their students and ‘treat everyone the same.’ ” Applicants who are skeptical of DEI programming might choose to describe their commitment to viewpoint diversity. This too runs afoul of the rubrics, which mandate a low score for any candidate who defines diversity “only in terms of different areas of study or different nationalities but doesn’t mention gender or ethnicity/race.”
The rubrics likewise punish candidates for failing to embrace controversial diversity practices. They recommend low scores for candidates who “state that it’s better not to have outreach or affinity groups aimed at underrepresented individuals because it keeps them separate from everyone else, or will make them feel less valued.” These affinity groups exemplify a new kind of segregation, but expressing that view could imperil an applicant’s career.
This is typical of diversity statements whose express goal is to get candidates to disavow any notions of neutrality or equality, and to commit to viewing everything through the leftist lens of identity politics.
And the NIH is spending a quarter of a billion dollars to do this. We’d be better off defunding NIH than allowing it to destroy what’s left of our scientific community.

This should be shouted from the roof tops.

Thie NIH should be defunded of this garbage

Yes, I’m sure every patient whose chest is about to cracked is most interested in the doctor’s skin color and whether he or she demonstrates “a strong commitment to promoting diversity and inclusive excellence.” What insanity.
Cat says
Actually, noting the race of the doctor may lead to a possibly valid conclusion that they were not actually qualified to be the doctor. And that might not be true. How is that helping anyone or any thing?
Spurwing Plover says
Both them and WHO should be totally defunded the latter by pulling out of the United Nations and moving them to Moscow

We know how well Lysenkoism turned out in the USSR during Stalin’s reign.
My favorite story is how almost all opponents of Lysenkoism were purged, except the nuclear physicists, because Stalin wanted the bomb so badly.
Then Stalin died, and Soviet science was saved!

They only needed enough competent people to make sense of the technical knowledge they stole from, or were given by, the West. The T-34 used a Christie suspension. The Kaytusha rocket barrages wouldn’t have been possible without the 200K+ Deuce and a Half trucks (most of them Studebakers, which were considered junk in the US, but clearly and honestly not in the rest of the world) the US delivered to the soviet union in WW2. The Mig-15 used a Rolls Royce Pegasus engine reverse engineered from one given to them by the British. The Chernobyl reactor was a design the US outlawed in the 50s for being unsafe. Oops gotta go, but gotta post this unedited. Sorry for any typos or grammatical errors(though some of those are intentional.

The left destroys everything it touches, Education, the Military, the medical institutions and science research itself, much as Stalin and Mao used fake science to cause the death of millions.

Governments have been funding science for over 200 years now via universities and stand-alone scientific institutes. There has always been an agenda attached to the funding. There’s no better argument for a libertarian approach to science than government funding–not that anything will change.
